A native MSFS2024 aircraft will not work in MSFS2020. So that means, for a developer to make an aircraft that works in both, they have to create one where the 2024 version doesn't use the modular system (which offers amazing functional and performance benefits), doesn't fully utilize external click spots, and doesn't utilize a whole other raft of features. Co-developement for 2020 and 2024 is absolutely something that holds back innovation and quality for the current iteration of this amazing sim. I say it genuinely not to upset or inflame anyone, but for very pragmatic reasons, I hope every single dev stops pandering to the old 2020 platform as urgently as possible and that 2020's service life is ended. That would mean devs would be fully able to utilize the features that only 2024 offers, for their products. This insistance by some over-cautious, ultra-conservative (small 'c') simmers to stick with a 6 year old platform is relatively unprecendented. We are 18 months into 2024's life. Thinking about FSX, I definitely don't recall simmers in 2009, demanding propducts that were still comptaible with FS2004. I can't think of a single logical reason to still be using MSFS2020. I have no plans to go to MSFS 2024 until my internet connection is upgraded. As is, I'm perfectly happy with MSFS 2020.

I personaly have no issue with anyone staying with an old version of a simulator. As long as they're not making silly demands, such as that developers continue making addons for the old platform that they've chosen to stay with, or expecting lifetime updates to addons for that old platform. There are even some 2020 users who are furious that some features - available only with 2024 - aren't getting "back-ported" into 2020 😄 The sim we each choose to use is of no concern to anyone - as long as we have credible expectations around the fact that, when people decide to stay with an old sim version, they're not going to get new addons or updates to products. PS.... about your connection speed; there are users here who have only a 50mbps internet connection, who say they get perfect streaming from MSFS2024. To put that into perspective, my connection is 6000mbps. MSFS2024 hasn't been designed to only work with first-world ultra high-speed broadband. No assumptions: the info is out there for anyone who keeps up with it. You can even test this yourself: is the number of developers coding for 2020 increasing or decreasing…? If there was enough money to be made by supporting the last version, it’d still be a steady pace of releases, no?
April 21Apr 21 It’s about bug fix for products already purchased. Clear indication that pmdg is just chasing new revenue stream via platform update. some here confuse good old-fashioned bug fix with new development. Even perceived "bugs" will not receive updates, a certain amount of time after a platform has been replaced by a newer iteration. There is still a bug in the Carenado Commander 114 for Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight. The CDI is inverted. I am not expecting a "bug fix" any time soon. If you want further updates, bug fixes and future developments, you need to be on the latest iteration of a piece of software, at least as a general rule. Stick with 2020 if you're happy with all of the amazing addons that it has. Move to 2024 if you're looking for further improvements and updates. At least that's the logical approach.
