Featured Replies

Hi. I just saw that MSFS 2024 sold 245K copies on PS5 so far, as of April of 2026:

Most of us are PC users of MSFS 2024 so on the surface, you may not care about this much.  But the  MSFS marketplace will eventually come out on the PS5.  3rd party developers having a significant market to sell to other than PC and XBox, means they can make more money. And 3rd party developers do affect us if we are PC users. The more 3rd party developers for MSFS, the better, because we ultimately get better add-ons to choose from, and and a wider variety of add-ons.

These look like pretty good sales numbers. At the minimum, I think the scenery add-ons from 3rd party developers should transfer over to PS5.  So it will be a nice cash injection for the 3rd party scenery developers.  For 3rd party plane developers, let's see what the PS5 allows.  It's unknown if PS5 would allow a high fidelity plane like PMDG yet, so we will have to see what is possible on the PS5 and what isn't.

BTW, I think Simbol mentioned something like 1/3 of the sales for FSReborn for one of his add-ons came from XBox.  So console sales for add-ons can be a significant revenue source for some 3rd party developers.  I do hope with the launch of the MSFS marketplace for PS5, the 3rd party development community for MSFS can grow even further.

I mean what's the point of this comparison? GTA is very much a general purpose game enjoyed by all sorts of gamers, of course the copies sold is wildly different. However, MSFS has become more widely

Actually, not just on the surface.

Nice to know that flight simulation is no longer some backwater endeavor enjoyed only by the few.

Thanks for the info. Appreciated.

I not interested in the PS5 perse (my son thinks otherwise 😉) but I gave up on VR after owning a rift, rift S and Reverb G2. Would really like to try msfs2024 on the PS5 headset some day. I've spent 80% of my flight time (between 2016-2022) tweaking and troubleshooting, especially the original Rift.... Was completely thrilled if the word not allowed thing would work for 1 hour straight.

Let's see where this goes.

Have a nice day!

Cheers

True, but I'll doubt any MSFS release will ever reach such numbers.

I mean what's the point of this comparison? GTA is very much a general purpose game enjoyed by all sorts of gamers, of course the copies sold is wildly different. However, MSFS has become more widely available to the general public as it's now accessible on both console platforms, that was kind of the point abrams was making.

You doubt that MSFS will reach the numbers of the highest ever selling game on Playstation, and the 2nd or 3rd highest selling game (depends on who you ask, apparently) of ALL TIME on ALL platforms EVER?

Yes, I think I can safely agree with you on that. MSFS will never be the highest selling game of all time on any platform. It simply is not that type of game.

This kind of comparison is just pointless. Might as well compare your average 2nd div player in any sport to the GOAT of that sport..

That is good to know, and good for our hobby!

Comparing video games across genres is not very insightful, they really are very different beasts and the development studios know this and how to approach them.  The dynamics are different, as is the investment and expected return. As just one metric, people thought it was impressible that Joge would report that 100 or 300 people are working on MSFS: the current in development version of Grand Theft Auto (VI) is reported to have over 7,500 developers working on it across 11 studios on three continents. It's development budget -- not marketing -- is over 1 billion dollars.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

Microsoft needs this:
Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator - Wikipedia

"Combat Flight Simulator was a commercial success.[2] It was the United States' 19th-best-selling computer game during the first half of 1999,[3] and totaled 260,708 sales and $10.8 million revenues in the country by that October.[4] The game's defeat of its direct competitor, Jane's WWII Fighters, contributed to the end of Electronic ArtsJane's Combat Simulations brand.[4][5]

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

See, told ya’ll we need real damage physics so we can blow things up and hit 200 Million sales 😉

Shoot, kill, jump, run, rinse, and repeat … is a very popular formula … not exactly sure why?  Would love to see Asobo add “space flight” to this series … maybe we’d get another 10,000 sales (maybe, I know too passive).

Yeah, that was my first thought as soon as I saw GTA above.

Sports/Gaming has always been about competition, and Civ flight sim really doesn’t offer that.
if they can figure out a way to add optional combat, quite a few new folks would join in.  😁

Another thing that really helps sales/ongoing use, IMHO, is the native support for console controllers. No need to have a HOTAS or anything more than comes with the system.

Heck, all you need for War Thunder is a mouse and keyboard - and look at THOSE player numbers! (I know, I know, much different, but still…)
