But the MSFS marketplace will eventually come out on the PS5. 3rd party developers having a significant market to sell to other than PC and XBox, means they can make more money. And 3rd party developers do affect us if we are PC users. The more 3rd party developers for MSFS, the better, because we ultimately get better add-ons to choose from, and and a wider variety of add-ons. These look like pretty good sales numbers. At the minimum, I think the scenery add-ons from 3rd party developers should transfer over to PS5. So it will be a nice cash injection for the 3rd party scenery developers. For 3rd party plane developers, let's see what the PS5 allows. It's unknown if PS5 would allow a high fidelity plane like PMDG yet, so we will have to see what is possible on the PS5 and what isn't. BTW, I think Simbol mentioned something like 1/3 of the sales for FSReborn for one of his add-ons came from XBox. So console sales for add-ons can be a significant revenue source for some 3rd party developers. I do hope with the launch of the MSFS marketplace for PS5, the 3rd party development community for MSFS can grow even further. There’s some interesting & germane info in the linked article. Definitely worth a read. 🤙 Edited April 15Apr 15 by UrgentSiesta

A more interesting game/sim would be to have an objective to avoid civilization filter events (aka the Fermi Paradox). But sadly that would not sell which just adds confirmation to the Fermi Paradox. Back to MSFS sales figures … agree not anywhere near AAA title sales numbers and unlikely to ever reach them … but that shouldn’t be the measure of quality or good and more just a representation of the evolutionary state we humans are in. I still believe those sales numbers are enough to keep MSFS going, perhaps not with the development resources we all desire, but certainly enough to keep the update path going and a 3rd party community alive … who knows, maybe one day they’ll address the missing landing gear issue 😉 Edited April 15Apr 15 by SayAgain Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. - Carl Sagan

Was just answering your question in re motivation 🙂🤙 I fully support the platform diversification, particularly in that it’s these are the most likely to bring Net New aviators into the fold.

The Original Sub-logic FS back in the early 80's was quite popular for it's time. Not a serious simulator like hard core people here on the forum.

April 15Apr 15 I don't think we'll ever see air combat in MSFS, they do not want to lose that all-ages rating (E for Everyone here in the US). As for GTA-like popularity... if the MSFS world as a platform eventually takes off (the digital twin Jorg likes to talk about), I think we could eventually get there with multiple IPs. One reason for GTA V's huge success is it's a digital homage to LA/southern California, a place for people to hang out virtually. Outside of the massively successful GTA online, there are also huge roleplaying communities modded into the game that turns it into everything from a taxi to police "sim" (I use that term loosely in a world where "Power Wash Simulator" exists and is more popular than I'd ever imagine). Now take that and put it on a world scale and you can have cops vs. robbers chases on a replica of the 110 in LA instead of the cut-down version we see in GTA. People always get excited about map sizes when a new open world game comes out... doesn't get much better than a 1:1 scale of the real world.

Quite frankly the true cost of 'defense' and we'll call it 'offense' spending, worldwide is ginormous, in the trillions of USD. And all of that steals from the rest of civilization, absolutely and massively. It's what the patriarchy brings which is out of step with where technology has moved. We're very clever, but not very wise. I'd rather keep MSFS a civilian flight sim. May contain minimal cartoon, fantasy or mild violence and/or infrequent use of mild language. Some here may remember the fake videos made in DCS that ended up being circulated by media outlets at the start of the Ukraine war. Definitely beyond the realm of "fantasy or mild violence" and obviously something MS/Asobo wants to avoid. Microsoft's legal and PR teams have more influence than those who pay Jorg's salary, I'm sure.
