I'm getting a lot of other useful anecdotes from this discussion however, like its good to know that several 2020 mods and sceneries will still work with 2024 even though it may not specifically say it does. I believe P2ATC/FSUIPC7 works with 2024 as well, that's important for me. I'm so far, fairly convinced, but switching this time to 2024 I'll probably want more than the standard edition to get more airframes to use, which might be worth waiting for a bigger discount. I only ever got the standard edition for 2020. MSI Aegis R | Intel i7-14700F | NVIDIA RTX 4060 | 1TB NVMe | 32GB RAM | Windows 11

April 17Apr 17 I got MSFS2024 during the last sale. Went for the Standard edition - figured the only extra plane I would be interested in is the Saab 340 and this is still a mess in my understanding. After now 38h in SU4 - mostly flown the BS Caravan professional (not bush flying so far): While the closer areas look superior in 24, mountains & areas in the distance look inferior. Also - 24 has a LOT more trees - like a ton. Performance with my PC (9800X3d. 64GB RAM, 6950XT 16GB both, windows & the sim on dedicated PCIE4 SSDs) on 3440x1440 is actually worse in 2024. Might be that have not found my sweet-spot concerning the settings yet but I'm on medium with some high/ultra settings according to online guides & photogrammetry off. I even get a VRAM warning in the 2024 sim when at the stock Princess Juliana Airport (TNCM) in the Caravan. That never happened to me ever in 2020 even on bigger 3rd party airports with AIG traffic like KSDF or KMEM using the iniBuild A300.. Of these 38 hours - I spent a lot with the control set-up. With all due respect - that is an utter ****show trying to get my Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo and Saitek pedals going. Tried the set-up only for the Caravan and the iniBuild A300 so far. But there is stuff I just cannot get my mind behind. I got a working set-up now with a lot of YouTube guides but it is still not where I want it to be. It is stable - had two crashed to desktop but I think I have to be more patient and wait for stuff because of the always online loading times (I'm on the 150Mbit line). I really don't like the avatars - They all look like idiots. Maybe the one in 2020 are not customizable but at least they look normal. (that is of course a personal thing...) Not all my flights get logged for some reason. My BS Caravan cannot seem to remember the hours and EFB settings. (looks like a problem om the MSFS side according to the BS forum, have not tried other planes) I still have not figured out how to move my community folder - it is on my C drive (windows installation) not my sim drive. That is ...unfortunate... since is getting big fast- I am only using Free flight - not interested in anything else. So I cannot comment on the rest. But I'm still getting used to the new hangar system - seems overly complicated when looking for planes & liveries... The free flight map - can the clouds be deactivated? I really have to zoom in to get a clear view of the airports & parking... There is more - that is just from the top of my head... I'll probably get used to it - but then after 40 hours I probably should be already. But I'm not. Knowing this now - I would not have purchased the sim (yet) even at a discount. I am still happy with my 2020 install - and frankly I still see not enough of an improvement to switch. Just my 2 cents.... Edited April 17Apr 17 by GGLurch_2

April 17Apr 17 I am also 2024 user and 95% of my use is high altitude IFR flights. Performance for me mut be a little better but I had good performance in 2020 as well. I switched only to try out ini A340. Sky might look better along with lighting but to me more Importantly would have been better weather. I still don’t get penalized for flying inside bad weather. I could have lived happy with 2020.

As I've said a million times since 2024, I switched on hour one of day one and have never given MSFS2020 a second thought since. But it was never something I was going to particularly agonize over to be honest. Don't forget, it's not an irreversible decision like getting your cat neutered. Try it. If you don't like it, uninstall it. Simple. I also switched on day one and, yes, there were some issues at the time. But now we're looking at SU5 and DLSS 4.5. The views on the flight I took a few hours ago were nothing short of amazing! Rick Abshier 5900X | RTX 5070 Ti OC| 64 GB@3600 | India Pale Ale
April 17Apr 17 I thought I would give MSFS2024 a shot since it was on sale since I use P3Dv3. Crazy huh, but I fly a few aircraft that will never be. I was pleasantly surprise how well it runs on my system. i5 9600k, Z390 AORUS PRO with 32GB, EVGA 3060 16GB, and Win10 OS. Panning in the cockpit is super smooth, even in high end settings. Flying around my hometown was accurate enough. Checkout Silicon Valley and S.F. was smooth, I was impressed! If it wasn't the sale I would probably never purchased MSFS2024, but I'm glad I did. 👍

April 17Apr 17 I was a big MSFS2020 user because of my OLD system (I7-4770K@4,4ghz,32GB DDR3-2400,EVGA GTX1080TI 11GB) and because of stability etc , but i havent used MSFS2020 since midt December after SU4 and most of my airports and other addons are now here. Performance is also about 15% better when it behave , and traffic is not hitting so hard Michael Moe Edited April 17Apr 17 by Michael Moe Michael Moe

In my experience, 2024 runs better on my system than 2020 ever did. Stop procrastinating and just do it! April 17Apr 17 Responding to a few more comments from different posters here..... I do not see any difference (certainly nothing that stands out) to suggest that mountains and distant terrain look inferior to MSFS 2020. They look the same to me. I disagree that MSFS 2024 has more trees. That is not my experience. However, the trees that are there are vastly superior to those in MSFS 2020. All of my settings are on HIGH, and I do not have a problem at TNCM St Maarten with 12GB VRAM. I only have a CH Flightstick Pro joystick, so setting up the controls was relatively easy. I have no experience with complex stuff like yokes and throttle quadrants. If you want to get rid of the clouds on the free flight map, select Clear Skies when you are there. That RTX 4060 is your biggest problem. As far as I am aware, that only has 8GB VRAM. That is pushing it with MSFS 2024.
