FSR4 is out. Some say it beats TAA and DLSS

Hi all. I have been using Optiscaler for a long time with my AMD card. It works great but make your life easier and use the new Optiscaler Client. https://youtu.be/QdsFxeR8PAg?si=RgIB2GHHS10Z7N9g

yes, it does work on nvidia cards, and in VR. I'm using it wit an RTX3060 and hp reverb g2, and have noticed a slight frame rate increase.

  • Would be great if someone could do a step by step walk through using MSFS and optiscaler. I’ve tried but don’t see the option for 4.1. In addition we need instructions for after installing what to sel

If anyone needs amdxcffx64.dll file, here is the link (provided by user u/jar36). It's the version 4 FSR file.

So, is it possible to get FSR 4.1 just copying your file into the game directory, without using the optiscaler app?

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

you can add it manually, just go to your game directory and add the flightsimulator24.exe, my custom directory would be this one:

F:\MSFS2024\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\Content

EDIT installed Optiscaler and can open the overlay through INS but all I see in FS2024 is FSR 3?

Yeah I don't know that Optiscaler is going to allow you to run FSR4 natively within MSFS by simply swapping the DLLs....pretty sure you're going to need to activate it by pressing INSERT and activating Optiscaler itself. I always thought of Optiscaler as like Loosless Scaling but with broader features

I just tried the optiscaler client. I am a bit confused since it said in the client i can slect 4.0. But when running the game i can select in the ffx settings fsr 4.1.0. So it does have 4.1? Also framegeneration is not part of 4? I only see fsr 3.1 in the FG input?

In main ap setting, whatever tuner you are using, vsync should be set to on to prevent screen sharing.

I think I did try playing with the vsync setting but couldn't stop the tearing. The problem is that I have very limited time for simming and never want to spend it tweaking. So I end with various issues that don't get fixed and spend the time I do have flying whatever setup I have.

So FSR4.1 is not available for the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX?

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX (24 GB VRAM), 64 GB RAM, 4k TV

Just for fun, and because I had some time to spend, I tried this out on my RTX5060 and got it to work. However, I really did not notice any visual differences (in my case). So, de-install and back to DLSS 4.5. No need to install mods and tweak things to have them do things they were not designed to do. It's just asking for problems.

I have a feeling that will be due to the triple screens. I tried OptiScaler about 3 months ago on my triple setup and couldn't get it to work...more than happy to be proven wrong tho.

Just to confirm from those using it, is this only invoking FSR4 Upscaling or is it also allowing FSR4 Frame Generation?

Since it is already 3 users here, I think it's cause of triples. Maybe will try to ask on their discord, if I solve something I'll let you know.

i enabled fsr 4 but i think fps wise it is not better than TAA. Mostly i am main thread limited. So yes with frame gen i can get 50-60 fps but its not stable and will give stutters. Just like taa when its too heavy for the cpu. Best thing for me is to lock v-sync 1/2 and get max 37.5 frames with my monitor.

With fsr 4 the displays do look pretty good. Speed tape was a bit ghosting but the rest looks super.

I have a 4090, and installed via the client.

Do I need to select FSR in teh MSFS menu?

Should I uninstall the Nvidia app?

How do I know its actually working?

Would be great if someone could do a step by step walk through using MSFS and optiscaler. I’ve tried but don’t see the option for 4.1. In addition we need instructions for after installing what to select on the menus in MSFS graphics settings bf and what to set in the “insert” optiscaler in game menu please.

Oh man ..

The fun i had with this little software right here.

Absolutely crazy configuration but its working and smooth as butter

Hardware 9800X3D/Win10pro/9070XT/32GB Ram

Sim settings

DLSS 4.5 ultra resolution (Upgraded via DLSS Swapper) + Nvidia Latency On+Boost (Important) + "In sim" frame rate limiter on to 36fps (Target 72fps via FG for Half monitor refresh rate fixed VRR off) + Vsync off in sim (In SimVsync sucks).

Framegen Settings

+ AMD driver based fluid motion frames (All other framegen gives artifacts on my engine fans) + Vsync off in driver.

Optiscaler Settings

Optiscaler DLSS input spoof + FSR3/4 + 4.1 + Enable Vsync on (This Vsync is decent)

Bottom line .. It looks like Optiscaler lets my AMD card benefit from some of that DLSS goodness so i thought to myself hmm if it allows me to use DLSS inputs and spoof it can i use the latest version.. ? DLSS swapper answered that question. Also that DLSS latency reduction + boost option in the sim? chefs kiss. That took A LOT of the panning stutters out of the equation.

I did try FSR 4.1 but it was a little over sharp for my tastes and does not have that game changer nvidia latency reduction+boost so im just going to stick with this complete abuse/misuse of a config and keep it moving ! :)

This has been asked multiple times in this thread now- no one knows lol.

Yes you need to select FSR in the game menu.. save the config.

Then open optiscaler... select FSR 3/4 and hit change

Then look a few lines down you should see the drop down for the versions .. select 4.1 if installed and select change.

But you have to select FSR in the game first (That is selecting the input)
