John, your Lake Renegade...

Recommended Posts

Guest

Hey John!I just downloaded your Lake Renegade and went to test it. It would be very nice plane indeed, but there is one thing that I would like to see fixed. You obviously have the part order wrong. For example the pilot can be seen "in front" the glass from other side, when it should be behind the glass, like it is on the other side. Look at my screenshot...There is very simple fix for this. Just cut/paste (ctrl+x and after that ctrl+v) all your glass parts one time. This will move the glass parts on the top of the part order list. I know it reguires a patch from you, but this is too good plane to not have things right. Hope you will be able to do it. This seems to be too common problem with FSDS2 planes...Mikko http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/mmniemi/shots/banger.gif

Hey John! Now it looks how it should look like :-) Thanks for fixing the "bug" :-) It'll definately be a keeper for me now as I love Lake Renegades and I never after all finished my own (though Brian might yet do it someday)If you still have intended to open up it once more in FSDS2, here's a little suggestion for you that you could do. Not necessary, but would give the final touch to the model. Make copies of all your glass parts. Then, part by part, flip all the polygons so they will point to other direction. Why? Well, since the doors are openable, and when they are open, then one would see the glass also on the inside of the plane, not only from outside. This is a small thing, and like I said, not necessary. But still it would be nice to see ;)anyway, What a great plane!!Mikko http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/mmniemi/shots/banger.gif

Mikko,I took your suggestions and some others and made some more changes. It is in your email.I like seeing the glass from inside the VC. It gives a little tint to the outside and changes shading with viewing angle. You definitely know it is there. I am concerned that some people may not like it that way.As far as continuing on with the Lake, I may not be able to do it but I am very willing to share what I have with anyone that can use it.John

Hey John!If you sent me second model, I never got it. Can you send it to mmniemi@nic.fi instead of that hotmail address? And about the joint effort thing I mentioned in my e-mail, I'll get back to you after weekend (got a cousins wedding to go to). Maybe Brian for example would be interested in co-operation with me/us :)Mikko http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/mmniemi/shots/banger.gif

We tried tinted cockpit windows with no success. There were tinted allright, but all runway lightning dissappeared in the process...

I liked it at first while on the ground, but after flying for a while I realized it makes everything too dark, and ground textures are dark enough with FS2002. Whatever I finally upload will not have glass in the VC.John Woodward

John, I gather then that you will be releasing a 'Service Upgrade' sometime soon to correct the 'glass' issue?I have to say that I'm delighted with the model so far; it is lightyears ahead of the previous FS2k version.Except for the dark VC at night, flying from the VC is delightful! :)

Hi Bill,There should be an upgrade sometime today for both the Lake and the Ercoupe. I never did learn to do the VC lighting. I am going back to work soon so I may cut back on the aircraft designing, but I think someone else might be picking it up. See the bush forum at Avsim.John

Great news then, John.Applying lighting for the VC is as easy as providing a name for the 'self-illumination map' within GMax or FSDS2, similar to the way you apply the $dummy.bmp textures! All the 'real work' then takes place within Photoshop (or other paint program). The "key" to making it work is simply having the reserved name available. For example, if I have a single VC panel to illuminate, and I used $VCpanel.bmp for the texture, then to make life simpler I would simply create another texture named VCpanel_L.bmp and apply it within the modeling program as a 'self-illumination map' to the VC object!Hint: to make life even simpler, you can simply duplicate the $dummy.bmp, name it dummy_L.bmp and then apply both at the same time! As I said, the "real work" takes place outside of the modeling program anyway: it is only necessary to reserve and assign the filenames within the modeling program! It really is that simple!

Well, I then decided not to interfere their/your plans so I made my move last night and converted my old Lake Renegade into gMax. Who knows, maybe I'll continue working on it, maybe not... But in the meantime, I will be enjoying your plane very much. :)Mikko http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/mmniemi/shots/banger.gif
