A humble request for help..

Greetings all. My FSDS2 MD-11 is nearing the end of development, but I have a problem which is really frustrating me, and that is the texture mapping. I have tried numerous times to properly texture map this aircraft, but with MS Paint and Imagetool I can only do so much. If anyone can point me to some good image editing software (free please I've already spent lots of money obtaining materials and software to build this plane) or otherwise assist me with this I'd greatly appreciate it. It's not working with the textures I am having trouble with (I'm not even trying to do that), it's creating the texture templates for the model.
