C-172 Yoke removal

Recommended Posts

Guest FredZ KSAC

Hi all, is there any way to remove the yoke from the stock Pro version of the VC panel for the C-172? The yoke covers up most of the tach. and makes throttle setting sumwhat difficult. Thanks for your help.Fred Z

If you're up for a little painting, you can remove the yoke from the VC with DXTbmp and MS Paint.DXTbmp is available for free here:http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/index.htmRemoving the yoke is as simple as opening the c172_c texture with DXTbmp and sending it to MS Paint to edit the texture by "painting" over the yoke on the bitmap.Paint over the yoke with either black (0,0,0), or pure green (0,255,0), and then exit Paint and save the changes. Back in DXTbmp, you reload the edited texture, create either a black or green Alpha channel (select the same color that was used to paint over the yoke, this color will be rendered as fully transparent when the Alpha channel is created), and then save the texture in either a DXT1 or DXT3 with Alpha format. You will have to repeat this process for all c172_c textures in each texture folder. In the attached JPEG image (from FS9) I have also removed the compass from the glareshield for increased visibility.

Doug, Just a follow-up. The solution works as advertised! Thanks. Now I can see the tach in it's entirety.

Hi,I tried to use this method to remove the headrests from the top of the seats of the Dreamfleet Archer. I checked the bitmap, I painted the headrests 0,0,0 in both the image and the alpha channel. But when I look at the seat in the airplane, the headrests still look black with this really stretched reflection of cloud and sky on the tops of the headrests. What am I doing wrong?Thomas

Obviously the Archer's texture is using the alpha channel for reflectivity rather than transparency, in which case you cannot use this "trick." ;(

durn.Oh well.Note to aircraft designers:Try to separate items that may have reflectivity from those items that don't need it into different texture files. (I assume that would fix this issue). Thanks for the explanation Bill,Thomas.
