Resizing textures

Recommended Posts

I was reading a review elsewhere on Vmax's RFP 747 and the reviewer mentioned what a frame hog it was because of the size of the textures (22meg texture folder). He talked about resizing the textures to improve framerates. Possible? John

I think yes, if you have a texture of 1024 x 1024 you can resize it to 512x512. To improve frames you can also don't use reflections, might be usefull too pleae correct me if I am wrong

Remember that many textures have alpha channels so you must be careful not to loose the original alpha and mipmap components of the textures when resizing.DXTBMP allows a fairly easy process to edit the primary texture, resize it and return it to the mix. Then repeat the process for the alpha channel. Remember to set the mipmaps off or on appropriately to your liking.Of course, any size reduction will result in some loss of detail but that's a small tradeoff to enjoy better FPS.Milton

Can you please explain it for a dummy like me? Would it help to convert textures to DXT3? Thanks!
