panel & VC design

Recommended Posts

Guest Kd527

I'm having some trouble with editing my Cessna panel. I'm using a picture I took as the background (I made it a *.bmp and it's 256 colors. It works). My problem though is trying to put the gauges in the right places. I've done this before without any problem by loading the panel background with Paint or Paintshop, and floating the mouse over the corner of the place where I want the gauge. Then I type in the coordinates into the panel.cfg. I've done this without any problem before. This time, however it's not working properly. The gauges are in the wrong places, and some are even off the screen. I'm not really in the position to buy a panel editing program.Secondly, how do I edit the virtual cockpit (or other default textures for that matter)? If I use Paintshop Pro 8, it shows up as the top half all black, and the lower half is black and white stripes. I can sort of make out a picture in the lower half. If I use the Windows default MS Paint, it can't interpret it at all. Same with the fax veiwer application thing.Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Does anyone know the answer to either of these? Also, it says "HTML use enabled", but it's not working.

Hi.Post your "panel.cfg" to get better help. If you have more than one texture / VC you have to place them by hand, or you can use some utils. available. Try replacing an existing one, that you know the coordinates, and size, then add the one you want with reference to it. TV

The "freeware" version Cfgedit.exe is still available, and works fine for 2d panels. It will not handle XML gauges at all though. The textures are all in extended format, and must be extracted/converted to "regular" bitmaps by ImageTool or DXTBMP. The former is from the MS SDK, and the latter is freeware and available nearly anywhere...

Okay, later on today I'll post my panel.cfg. All It is right now is a simple redo of the default 182. Where can I get CFGedit? What I did for my panel background, is I took a picture of the real thing, using Jasc PaintShop Pro 8 I copied it as a selection onto the default IFR panel background. I filled in the top as black, saved it as one layer 256 color bmp. It works, it's just that the gauges are not in the right places.

Hi, Maybe this is the problem. If you look at the stock IFR panel under window 00 it looks like:file=ifr_640.bmp <-------- have your bmp listed here file_1024=ifr_1024.bmp <----- maybe get rid of this entrysize_mm=640 <------ This is the key.....position=7visible=1ident=MAIN_PANELI am assuming you resized your bitmap to 1024x768. With the size_mm=640 entry all measurements using PSP to find X,Y,sizeX,sizeY will have to be multiplied by 0.625 to get the correct placements.size on screen (640) divided by backround bitmap size (1024) = 0.625to get it in a 1:1 ratio to make it easier to place gauges either get rid of the size_mm= line or set the line to 1024.More on this is in the panel/gauges sdk http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimul..._sdk.asp#panelsHope this helps. Yeah, like I said, I copied the photo (sort of it's digital:)) & pasted it as a selection onto the IFR background, so of course I did resize it because it was way to big to all fit on the IFR.Also, how do I edit the VC textures?Anyway, here's my panel.cfg I don't think I'm done with it:// Panel Configuration file// Cessna 182T[Window Titles]Window00=Main PanelWindow01=Radio StackWindow02=GPSWindow03=AnnunciatorWindow04=CompassWindow05=Mini Panel[Window00]file=panel_background_640.bmpfile_1024=panel_background_1024.bmpsize_mm=640position=7visible=1ident=MAIN_PANELgauge00=Cessna!ADF,679,415gauge01=Cessna!Airspeed,272,294gauge02=Cessna!Altimeter,551,291gauge03=Cessna!Attitude,413,289gauge04=Cessna!Avionics Switch,460,692gauge05=Cessna!Cowl_Flaps,985,733gauge06=Cessna!DME,848,281gauge07=Cessna!Flaps,1010,725gauge08=Cessna!Fuel_Selector, 876, 643gauge09=Cessna!Heading_Indicator, 412, 416gauge10=Cessna!IOAT, 971, 167gauge11=Cessna!Master_Alt_Bat,106,705gauge12=Cessna!Starter,62,716gauge13=Cessna!Tachometer,545,541gauge14=Cessna!Thrust_Controls,737,727gauge15=Cessna!Turn_Indicator,272,419gauge16=Cessna!Vertical_Speed,545,414gauge17=Cessna!VOR1,685,288gauge18=Cessna!Nav GPS Switch, 977, 304gauge19=Cessna!Pitch_Trim, 836, 650gauge20=Cessna!Rudder_Trim, 811, 696gauge21=Cessna182s!Autopilot_Switch, 975, 587gauge30=Cessna182s!Clock,155,312gauge31=Cessna182s!EGT_CHT,154,417gauge32=Cessna182s!Fuel,57,416gauge33=Cessna182s!Fuel_Flow_Man_Pressure, 272, 542gauge34=Cessna182s!Oil_Press_Temp, 62, 519gauge35=Cessna!OMI_Lights, 859, 336gauge36=Cessna182s!Switches,175,695gauge37=Cessna182s!VOR2,656,539gauge38=Cessna!Vacuum_Ampermeter, 158, 519gauge39=SimIcons!Kneeboard Icon, 275, 206gauge40=SimIcons!ATC Icon, 327 204gauge41=SimIcons!Map Icon, 392, 200gauge42=SimIcons!Avionics Icon, 481, 176gauge43=SimIcons!GPS Icon, 540, 174gauge44=SimIcons!Compass Icon, 439, 238[Window01]BACKGROUND_COLOR=2,2,2size_mm=156,308windowsize_ratio=1.0position=8visible=0ident=RADIO_STACK_PANELgauge00=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Audio, 0, 0gauge01=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Nav-Comm 1, 0, 29gauge02=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Nav-Comm 2, 0, 86gauge03=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio ADF, 0, 142gauge04=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio DME, 0, 180gauge05=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Xpndr, 0, 217gauge06=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio AP, 0, 262[Window02]size_mm=456,378window_size=0.5position=8BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0VISIBLE=0ident=GPS_PANELgauge00=fs9gps!gps_500, 0,0[Window03]size_mm=83,28WINDOW_POS=0.85,0.3BACKGROUND_COLOR=16,16,16VISIBLE=0IDENT=ANNUNCIATOR_PANELgauge00=Cessna!Annunciator,0,0[Window04]file=182S_compass.bmpsize_mm=70position=2visible=0ident=COMPASS_PANELgauge00=Magnetic_Compass!Magnetic-Compass,0,0[Window05]position=7size_mm=631,100child_3d=1background_color=0,0,0ident=MINIPANELgauge00=Cessna!Airspeed, 0, 1gauge01=Cessna!Turn_Indicator, 102, 0gauge02=Cessna!Attitude, 207, 0gauge03=Cessna!Heading_Indicator, 312, 0gauge04=Cessna!Altimeter, 417, 0gauge05=Cessna!Vertical_Speed, 531, 0[VCockpit01]size_mm=512,512pixel_size=512,512texture=$C182_1background_color=0,0,0gauge00=Cessna182ifr!Fuel_Flow_Man_Pressure, 385, 2, 126, 126gauge01=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio DME, 0, 85, 198, 51gauge02=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio ADF, 0, 34, 198, 51gauge03=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Audio, 0, 0, 198, 34gauge04=Cessna!Annunciator, 198, 3, 129, 33gauge05=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio AP, 0, 136, 198, 59gauge06=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Xpndr, 0, 196, 198, 61gauge07=Cessna182s!VOR2, 257, 129, 126, 126gauge08=Cessna!ADF, 385, 130, 126, 126gauge09=Cessna!VOR1, 1, 258, 126, 126gauge10=Cessna!Vertical_Speed, 129, 256, 126, 126gauge11=Cessna!Airspeed, 256, 256, 128, 128gauge12=Cessna!Turn_Indicator, 384, 256, 128, 128gauge13=Cessna!Altimeter, 1, 383, 126, 126gauge14=Cessna!Tachometer, 128, 383, 128, 128gauge15=Cessna!Heading_Indicator, 256, 384, 126, 126gauge16=Cessna!Attitude, 383, 384, 128, 128gauge17=Magnetic_Compass!Magnetic-Compass, 199, 36, 57, 57gauge18=Cessna!OMI_Lights, 201, 96, 45, 15gauge19=Cessna!Pitch_Trim, 204, 118, 44, 73gauge20=Cessna!Rudder_Trim, 262, 44, 72, 46gauge21=Cessna!IOAT, 262, 92, 91, 29[VCockpit02]file=Cessna_182_Panel_Decals.bmpsize_mm=512,512pixel_size=512,512texture=$C182_2background_color=0,0,0gauge00=Cessna182s!Oil_Press_Temp, 413, 113, 96, 96gauge01=Cessna!Vacuum_Ampermeter, 412, 213, 96, 96gauge02=Cessna182s!Fuel, 413, 313, 96, 96gauge03=Cessna182s!EGT_CHT, 415, 413, 96, 96gauge04=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Nav-Comm 1, 1, 1, 205, 76gauge05=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Nav-Comm 2, 207, 1, 205, 77gauge06=Cessna172!Clock, 413, 14, 93, 93[Default View]X=0Y=0SIZE_X=8192SIZE_Y=2500[Views]VIEW_FORWARD_DIR= 3.0, 0.0, 0.0Day=255,255,255Night=223,80,88Luminous=240,86,92
