wierd problem with normals after compiling with makemdl....

Recommended Posts

This is happening for every object I mirror in Gmax:I mirror (reflect) an object in Gmax with "copy" as the option, like half an aircraft fuselage for example, and everything looks just fine in Gmax, but in FS all the polys on the mirrored object have their normals reversed. Anyone know why this might be happening, or how to fix it?Also, in an unrelated problem, almost all of the objects which have points where a number of polys converge (like a nosecone, missile, etc.) are not showing up. At first I thought it could be becase they were too small for the makemdl, but it's not welding them, it's just making them disappear. I've made sure everything was welded and coincident, so I don't get it?Thanks in advance!--Jon

you can fix this problem by attaching the "mirrored" part to the parent part, then detaching it and renaming it. Of course, then you would have to re-align the hierarchy to that part. Hope this helps.Kobie :-wave

>Ahhh!, great, I'll do that from now on. I tried the other>suggestion with limited sucess but was starting to get>frustrated.I got "caught" with this once, a long time ago when I was first starting out, and "thought" I could fake my way through a project without doing any "study," or asking questions. The "Mirror" on the top tool bar quite literally "mirrors everything," including the normals. All left facing normals become right facing, etc. :(
