Reflections and greyscale values?

Recommended Posts

Guest Paul_H

Hi allI was wondering if anyone could give any info on reflections, specular values and the greyscale alpha image values to create an extended bitmap using DXTBMP?I've noticed that adding reflection to a standard bmp causes the original colours to "bleach". I've experimented a little and got some level of return.Would anyone care to post an image or two of their reflection work and tell me what grey value in RGB they used to achieve it? I'm particularly interested in fuselage reflection as metallic chrome effects are relatively straight forward. Also, when setting specular and glossiness values in the GMAX material editor what works for you? Many thanks for the time.regards Paulhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/73552.jpg

I dont use anything more than a greyscale of about 223 or so, anything darker and you will get the bleaching effect. usually if you set it at around 230-235 you get a shine like reality, without bleaching color much at all. If its colored paint on the TOP of the fuselage i dont give it shine at al, especially if the model has dynamic shine built in. That area fades rapidly in real life. I only use the above mentioned shine if its a very light color or white.Hornit
