New MakeMdl - why such a difference

Recommended Posts

Guest kefo

Hi all,I noticed that new makemdl (from FS2004 SDK) makes .mdl file twice as big as older (FS2002) makemdl did. I also noticed that same model compiled with newest makemdl has more impact on FPS than the same model compiled with FS2002 makemdl. Can anybody explain why there is such a difference? Thanks

Some of the difference in compiled file size has to do with the inclusion of the XML code into the .mdl file.I haven't noticed any significant impact on "old" vs. "new" .mdl files. YMMOV... :)

Unfortunately XML code does not explain this enormous growth in filesize. I've tested it and model with XML is larger only by aprox. size of XML code, which in my example was around 2kb. But model was nearly 600kb larger. Also, my tests showed that my simple XML code didn

From what I've read, not being able to compile a model without the "Optimize" enabled is the result of the original source being built using the "original" unit scale (first, FS2002 makemdl.exe), which was 1 unit = 1 inch. When the updated FS2002 makemdl.exe was released, it required the unit scale in GMax to be changed to 1 unit = 1 meter, instead of the former 1 unit = 1 inch...So, the solution for earlier models is to (a) use the original makemdl.exe, (:( rescale the source to comply with the correct unit scale, or © uncheck the "Optimize" button in makemdl.exe...
