Wind Correction Angle

HiThe Insight TAS 1000 instrument is capable of displaying wind corection angle:http://www.insightavionics.com/pages/tas.htmlBut what is logical to think this instrument bases it's correction angle on? Set heading bug? Current heading? True track? Set OBS? Does it display what the correction _should_ be, or what it currently _is_?Just being slightly confused :

The wind correction angle is used to compensate the wind drift. If your desired track is 90 degrees and the wind correction angle is 4 degrees, you have to fly a heading of 86 degrees to really stay on the 90 degrees track.On the Airbus navigation display the wca is a little green(?) triangle on the outside of the compass rose. It shows you the current track above ground.Hope that helps a bit.

Yes, obviously it's to correct for the desired track ;) but how does it know what the desired track is? I believe the instrument can be interfaced to most GPS'es (at least the FS9 Garmin brand), in which the flightplan could be used.I don't think it's connected to the autopilot.What happens to the instrument whenever a flightplan is not loaded? Does it display an error message? Does it use the OBS setting to determine desired track? If so, what happens when signal is lost? If a flightplan is loaded, does it base it's wind correction solely on the desired leg track, or the track needed to get back on desired track (if you have already drifted)?So many questions :)
