Sound Environment X - Perfect Flight

Recommended Posts

Guest tg272

While the product itself may be good, it will take me another 2 and a half hours to find out. I purchased the download (415MB) using PayPal. Well, I wasn't too happy about Perfect Flight's $5 surcharge for using PayPal, but I was even LESS HAPPY when I started the download and found out that they only have what seems to be a dial-up connection. My high-speed connection of 20-25MB/sec couldn't garner any more than 58KB/sec transfer rate. Normally, that would have been over 15 (fifteen) times that. Absolutely no excuse for that kind of customer support.Think twice before downloading this one. I wish I had. In fact I probably wouldn't have purchased the product if I'd known about the lack of bandwidth.Cheers,Bart Bartholomayhttp://acquiry.com/picts/vrs.gif

Sorry to hear about your experience.I went to their website hoping I could hear some samples, since I don't know how I'd be interested in a sound program unless I can hear in advance what it sounds like. Well, I couldn't find any samples. Plus there a 'no refund' policy. They won't be getting my business on this one.

Hi Bart,I don't know how often you've bought a program on its first day of release but it is not unusual to expereince delays. Sometimes the demand is just more than a server can deliver. R-

Hi, R -That's funny. I'm probably the one guy who always buys a product when it first comes out. And spending as much time in front of the computer each day, I see these products almost instantaneously after having been released. And believe me, I buy about every product that comes out, too (or so my wife believes!)Normally, I wouldn't have bothered to post a complaint, but I've had experience with Perfect Flight and their server is ALWAYS slow. That in itself wouldn't have been enough to complain about, but I believe it's within there ability to know what their bandwidth is. There are so many vendor servers in this community that regularly become inundated with an onslaught of download requests and provide perfectly ample bandwidth, I'm shocked that this product was offered for download with bandwidth no greater than dial-up.....at 415MB no less.True, I had a choice. Not knowing how long the download was going to take was NOT my fault. In this day and age I would have anticipated no more than 30 minutes with my connection...not the 2 hours and 42 minutes that it actually took!!What's more, I had the opportunity to talk with the project manager via three separate emails regarding this subject BEFORE the download was even half over. His explanation was that they got inundated with 100 purchases via download when the announcement was made. This is NOT what I consider exorbitant. 1000-2000? That's' another story. Then adding at least double the normal surcharge to the order required by PayPal did nothing more than to add to my frustration with this. A surcharge of over 15 percent? C'mon, that's a ripoff. No, I know all about what happened. But I will say that I now have the product installed and it works just fine. Would I buy it again under the same circumstances? No.Cheers,Bart Bartholomayhttp://acquiry.com/picts/vrs.gif

Deary me, you lucky guys don't know when you're well off!My broadband at its best, which is rare, is around the 1Mbit/sec (recently upgraded - ha!)and I was seeing download speeds of this product of 115kbits/sec which is twice what I have had to put up with for several years. I purchased the product (around

FWIW, I had the same issue BUT I use Getright downloader and I was able to open up 4 connections at 50kb so it only took me 45 minutes. At my normal 10K speed it should have taken only a few minutes.VicQ6600 G0 CPU 2.4 o/c 3.65Evga 680i A1 with P31 BIOS 2G XP2-8500 DDR2 1066FSB Mushkin 996535 RAM 5-5-4-12-2T320G 7200 HD partitioned for XP/Vista/Programs 2 - 74G Raptors in RAID0 500G 7200 HD for backup SATA DVD burner Evga 8800GTS 640 PCIx XG 174.74 702/1620/792Kandalf LCS case w/ built in liquid cooling 850W Thermaltake power supplyVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-supporter-sigbanner.jpg

Food for thought. I still think the basic point still stands. As a vendor, don't sell your software via download when you can only insure a dial-up connection speed.Cheers,Bart Bartholomayhttp://acquiry.com/picts/vrs.gif

no surcharge for me either, just straight 22.50E i wonder if it has something to do with how your paypal is configured like with a verified account or something?the d/l took a bit long for me too i think around 2 hours but i didn't really notice i was asleep while it was going anyways.for a quick review, i have done 2 flights since installing the pack and i'm really impressed with what i've heard so far. the environment sounds in a thunderstorm are particularly awesome!! just having some high-frequency information in the engine sounds is a great improvement as well (it is my understanding that the sounds are sampled at 44khz, the stock 22khz sounds only will reproduce frequencies up to 11khz as a result due to nyquist frequency and lose a lot of the detail, the high frequency whine on the king air sounds cool.) only issue i've noticed is that there is a distortion to the sound for a fraction of a second whenever i switch between interior and exterior views. i think it might be due to having to load up more data for the high resolution sounds (they are using 4x the bandwidth basically?). cheers,-andy crosby

>it is my understanding that the sounds are sampled at 44khzMy I ask where this information comes from? Reason I ask is this comes from the website:By default, sounds in Flight Simulator X comes registered by Microsoft at 22,050 kHz using only one channel (MONO). Sound Environment X converts all sounds using two channels (STEREO) at 44,100 kHz.This is different from sampling at 44khz.
