PRE_UPDATE and make icon.?

I was wondering if anyone had any idea about how to make a "if make icon is pressed" code that can be inputed into the preupdate(Im guessing its simple), or am I going to have to use a dummy variable? Can "gau" gauges use a dummy variable...thx for any help.
