Contact Points

Recommended Posts

Guest MikeMiraglia

Greetings all, I am just about ready to release an ultralight that I have been working on for the past year, but I am plagued with a problem regarding the contact points. Using FSDS 3, I created oval shapes to place under each tire, selected the appropriate reference part, and made sure to check the box to generate reference parts before compiling the model. But the contact points are still way off no matter where I place the reference parts. The same issue occurs when trying to place the pilot's viewpoint in the VC. Any help here would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks,-Mike

Did you make sure that the aircraft.cfg reference datum is correct? Verfiy it if you like by placing a light at the same coordinates.Good luck.

What is your issue with the contact points? "Way off" ??? is descriptive, but way off how?IS your landing gear animated? (compression, for example?) have you calculated the static compression ratios, etc correctly?

By "way off" I mean about 1 foot or so. I guess that may be a touch of exageration, but when the aircraft is sunk 1 foot into the ground it sure looks way off. I appreciate the help, but I think I am going to have to pause this project until I get the desire to study reference datum. The landing gears are not retractable. It is a tricycle design ultralight. The aircraft is complete except for the contact points. I can only assume that I am doing something wrong in FSDS because the problem occurs with all reference parts, including the VC pilot's viewpoint.
