Flight dynamics workbook still relevant?

Recommended Posts

Guest gaf

I'm a newbie at a/c flight dynamics and stumbled onto the remarkable flight dynamics Excel workbook by Jerry Beckwith. All the posts I've found that reference it, though, seem to be a few years old. Is it still usable for FS9? Is the companion program more up to date than the spreadsheet? The reason I ask is I'm having trouble creating an updates.txt file. When I press the button in the spreadsheet I get a VBS runtime error 13 (invalid type). I'm using Excel 2002 but MS is infamous for changing things between versions and I don't know if the version of VBS the workbook was written for is compatible with what I have. The author's e-mail address on the website bounced, so I wasn't sure if it was still as usable as ever.

I've traced this to a "divide by zero" problem for record 1101 (aero properties), item 0x8E. Something to do with the elevators. Trouble is, I don't know how the cell that populates that item is computed. The spreadsheet is locked from displaying formulas (a sensible IP protection precaution from the author). I've filled in everything I can find relating to the elevators. Any hints would be appreciated.

Those that know the answers never, ever speak.I've given up on the spreadsheet and categorized it as a waste of time because there is zero documentation and zero support.
