Vista+Add on Liveries=Bad

Ughh, I'm running Vista, and I can't install ANY add on liveries for my aircraft. If I add the aircraft in the .cfg file, it won't show up in the variations list. BUT, when I go to edit my .cfg file for my AeroSim L-1011, I can delete all the aircraft entries, (fltsim.x), yet they will all still show up in the variations list! Is there anyone who can help?

Vista's security system is refusing to allow you to save the edited file. You need to turn off said security system.

Well, that's the only thing I know of that causes the exact behavior you're describing. So, I'd have to say... ya probably don't have it all shut down yet.

You see, I can save the .cfg file, but the extra variations I add won't show in the variations list. But another thing, like I said before, if I delete the variations, they'll still show up.

In some directories, Vista maintains a "shadow" file system, so while it might look like you are actually saving the files, they aren't getting written to the main location, but are getting written to the "shadow" copy of the directory. I've run into this problem when doing certain things in an elevated priveliges Command Window (ie DOS Box), and then when I go back and look at the files from a non-elevated DOS box (or the Windows Explorer), the changes aren't there. Drove me nuts until I figured out what the heck it was doing :->You need to actually change the directory permissions on the "C:Program FilesFlight Simulator X" directory to allow, at a minimum, direct access by your normal logon account (or set them to allow access by Everyone/All (whichever it uses these days)). The alternative is to install FSX somewhere outside of "Program Files", but if you already have it installed, much easier to change the directory permissions.
