Mesh questions and poll

Recommended Posts

I have only downloaded a few mesh files due to my dial up cnx. Now that I have broadband Im interested in what everyone uses for Mesh. Currently I have Eddie Denney's for New England and the Southeast plus some Alaska. I went to FSGenesis and Im a bit bewildered by the options. Im guessing the 75m mesh is good for overall with areas i like upgraded to 38m. I mostly fly in the States with an occasional jaunt to island ares in the Carribean and S. Pacific. I don't mind payware either if its decent. Currently Im running an AMD 1.4GHZ T-bird, Voodoo 5, 512mb ram, WIN98SE.Hornit

Hi Hornit,Eddies old 153m downloadables for FS2000 won't help much with FS2002 since the new default resolution in most areas is already 153m, whereas the FS2000 default resolutioin was about 1200m.If you want to see a real difference, go with the 75m Base Terrain CDs. This will double the resolution of the whole US/Alaska/Yukon.The 38m Enhanced Terrain CDs will further double the resolution in those areas covered, currently the Appalachians & Northeast US, The West Coast, and soon-to-be released The Rockies (about May 10th).If you REALLY want some detail, try the Monument Valley 10m CD. That's about as high as we can go without some severely oversampled interpolation. The big difference between the RealScene purported 38m product is that 95% of the coverage is based on 90m source files, so it cannot by definition be any more accurate than 75m, since the resampler is forced to "invent" nearly two-thirds of it's output. My 38m, on the other hand is based on 30m source files so none of the output is "invented" so it's extremely accurate.Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.com

Justin...Am I the only person NOT getting the "border" information on your website. All I get is small rectangular boxes that do nothing. This has gone on for a while. I'm using the latest version of IE (6.0), and do not have this problem on othe websites. On a different note, if I purchase a $100.00 membership are all the files downloadable. Since I'm on a high speed connection, large files are usually not a problem to download off of a decent server.Regards:Bob (Lecanto, Fl)AMD, Athlon XP, 1800+MSI, K7T266 XP ProPC 2100 DDR, 1024 MBXP, Home Edition Elsa GLadiac 920, GF3/64Mb andPNY, Verto nVidia TNT 2-M64/32WD, 100 MB, 7200, Ultra 100Sound Blaster, Audigy MP3+CH Prod, VPP Yoke - Sound CardCH Prod, Pedals - Sound Card

HI Bob,Try clearing your browser cache, then make a trip to Windows Update to make sure you have the latest Java Virtual Machine. That should clear up any problems. It's also possible that your security settings are too high. It think your browser will block java applets at certain levels. No, the Terrain CDs aren't downloadable, unfortunately. Though I have a pretty generous allotment of bandwidth and disk space from my IHP, it's not enough to support the gigabytes of traffic to download the CDs.I generally ship everything the same or next day, depending on what time of day your order comes in.ThanksJustinhttp://www.fsgenesis.com

Justin....Security settings and cache had no effect.Downloaded newest 5.2 meg Java Virtual Machine and installed at:http://www.microsoft.com/java/default.htmThat fixed the problem. They had it "nailed" however, because in their FAQ they stated that if you are not getting Java Applets on 1 or 2 websites only, this is what is needed. I recently upgraded to the newest IE Version (for security reasons), so I thought I had everything. It was a very large upgrade. Apparently it was not included (or flawed) however, because I had no problems on your website before that.Thanks...Bob (Lecanto, Fl)AMD, Athlon XP, 1800+MSI, K7T266 XP ProPC 2100 DDR, 1024 MBXP, Home Edition Elsa GLadiac 920, GF3/64Mb andPNY, Verto nVidia TNT 2-M64/32WD, 100 MB, 7200, Ultra 100Sound Blaster, Audigy MP3+CH Prod, VPP Yoke - Sound CardCH Prod, Pedals - Sound Card

HI Bob,Yeah, MS is still feuding with Sun, so they didn't include java in IE distributed with Windows or the separate downloadable. You have to download it separately. Not sure what the separation is accomplishing, but there must be some legal hairsplitting, or at least spite, going on there.Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.com
