You're both right. They have both types. And the Rolls one is actually: RB211-524D4. But... the Rolls-equipped aircrafts were second-hand aircrafts. Eric,Thanks for the info. I was not aware there even was a 524D4. Must be pretty old. I was also sure all the 744's have the RR engines. Learn new things every day! ;-)(Edit) Make that - all the Virgin 744's.

Eric,Yep, but nowhere nearly as old as the CFM-56's they're still slapping on some aircraft. ;-)You'd think engine tech would have greatly improved since the 60's. ;-)

BA recently (last year, prior to 9/11) offered some of their B744's to Virgin, who were out to buy some more. Virgin rejected the offer on the basis of engine type (the BA birds were RR, of course- VA wanted GE). The real story, of course, is the fierce competition between VA and BA- and there was no way that Branson was going to help BA offload some assets it needed to lose.Bruce.
