Photoreal textures

Recommended Posts

Guest JohnC

Some time ago (6 mo?), I thought I read an exchange of info between Bob Bernstein and leatzaw about the use of very high resolution ground textures in the vicinity of airports. (can't find msgs now)Since it is an axiom for FS2002 that 4.8m/pixel is the highest resolution that can used for photoreal ground textures, I am wondering whether Bob or Paul can revisit for us whether there is "any" way around this limitation..

I vaguely remember that discussion, John. I haven't found any way around the 4.8m/pixel limit, myself. I think Paul was still using ground polygons circa fs2000. B

I actually found my hard copy of that discussion....it was called looking for a bit of help dated August 26-01 and you wanted to do a terrabuilder scenery.......with 2m/pixel around the airport.....If you could summarize (for us out in the Siberian wilderness of scenery design) exactly how that advice from leatzaw panned out, I for one would be most appreciative.

I have done some tests with photoreal textures lately and I could only get around the 4.8 m/pix by using normal polygons, but when I talked to another team member about it, he told me that he could also place the texture with an higher resolution using resample. He said you must make sure you stay inside the square of your LOD, but I have not tested this further. When I find more, I'll post it here too.Arno
