Headings in Gmax vs. Airport vs. FS2002?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone give me a clue as to how to accurately place buildings in FS2002 at a specific heading? I've got a cabin I've created in gmax, and which is centered exactly on the home grid in my project. When I export it as a bgl file, I give it a heading so it will face in a particular direction. I determined the heading by slewing a plane around in the place I want to put the building and recording the coords/heading info. When I view the scenery I've created in FS2002, the building is invariably facing in a considerably different direction than I was expecting. I thought maybe mag. variation had something to do with it, but even taking that into account I've had no luck placing buildings by any method other than trial and error. I'm a rank newb at this, so there's an excellent chance I'm misunderstanding something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks,Bill Womack

Hi Bill the reason for the above is that when you model in a program like gmax it uses somthing called "world co-ordinates" to see what I am talking about take a look at the attatched pic look at the "handles on the axis tripod the "X" points to "north" if you will(I.E. to the top) if it does not then rotate your model in gmax untllit does then since your model is now orentated due eastwest I.E.090270 it now should be easyier to properly place and orient your model. Hope this helps.
