Mirrored objects and inverted faces - GMax

Recommended Posts

Guest

Hi All,When using the mirror command to 'flip' an object, the 'flipped' object is displayed OK into GMax, but, when exporting the file to FS, all the faces looks inverted (they're visible from the inside only).I've played around the problem for a while without success. Now I need to flip a very complex shape, which required 3 hours to be made. I wouldn't like to spend further 3 hours to make the shape again from the scratch, while, if properly mirrored, the shape could be created with two mouse clicks. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

Use the Mirror modifier from the stack modifiers and NOT the mirror button on the menu bar.

There is a way to display the polygons event if mirored with the button on the bar : Just attach the mirored object to the original one. It works.

I had this same problem. I ended up hand creating the second piece to avoid the issue but their were inconsistencies in the symmetry, looked ok in FS but still felt sloppy to me if you looked close enough.Using the mirror from the modifier creates a copy just like I want, but they're attatched. How to I detach the "halves" in order to move the two as separate units? I clicked detach, but it didn't do the trick. Also it was mentioned that using the mirror button from the tools pulldown and attaching. How is this done, I couldn't figure that one out.

Ok, I hate answering my own posts, but I found the answer as far as getting the to halves separated, at least distance wise. Though they're still one object. Works great if both halves remain on the same axis. Though if I want to move on half for/back/up a bit then I'm stuck. So a way to detatch the halves into separate units would stil be desirable.
