Multi-texture runway

Recommended Posts

Guest

I am trying to make runway with multiple texture. In reality it was a patch up job and 100 m extensions on both ends of the runway are made of light concrete, whereas the original is black asphalt. I am working with FSDS and I've tried two overlaping runways: longer light concrete underneath and black shorter on top. Bad news: only one is displaying. Also landing on such a arrangement always burns the tires.I've tried extended runoffs but then there is problem with treshold lights. Anybody with FSDS experience or perhaps other solution would be welcomed.Ted

FSDS doesn't create runways, does it? Have you tried placing two runways in a design program like Airport or FSSC? I think I know someone who did something like that to get what you want.Arno

If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done.

Yes, of course it was my typo. I use FSSC not FSDS(?). Please give me some hint as to how accomplish 2 runways over each other.Ted

i think it should just work, they are probably shown in the order in which they are drawn, so the bottom one must be drawn first. But to be sure I'll have a short look at it when I am at home this evening :).Arno

Hi Ted,Use only one runway with its total lenght. Then just place 2 ground rectangles called with a LayerCall() with a layer number greater than 24 so that they are visible on top of the runway. These 2 rectangles should be coloured with gray without any texture. In the surface color instruction specify some transparency (see SCASM docs). The 2 rectangles on the extremes of the runway should "clear" it. The markinks and the textures will be visible. I made it in my present project and I am quite happy with the technique.Regards, Luis

I forgot to answer my previous reply. I had a look at it at home and could find no way to display two runways over each other, FS always hides one, no matter of the order in the source or a different layer.Arno

Actually I am happy to report that I succedded to make two runways one under another. They look quite good, only the lower one is somehow "sinking" into the sorrounding grass and has slightly smudged edge. It was dome with the lates version of FSSC 1.5.4 and perhaps that is where the trick is. Previous version did not want to work at all. So the result is OK. Meanwhile I came to another idea how to accomplished this multitextured runway. It is simply by making 2 or in my case 3 runways "in single file" and playing with various settings of markings, lighting etc., etc. I believe the same result (if not better) can be accomplished . I'll try it later. Ted
