Transparent see thru!?

Recommended Posts

Maybe a simple fix, but need help with it. I am doing a scenery with a cabin and a large bay window, with it transparent and a person(s) on the other side of the window (DXT1 texture) I get the window to be trans and show great and I get the person to show as well, just you cannot see them THRU the window. any ideas? Thanks, Michaelhttp://www.geocities.com/res052cd/cmhbanner.gif

Try setting the materials opacity in the material editor to somewhere around 20. Make a small dxt3 texture say 64x64 pixels the base color the color you want the glass to appear as and make the alpha channel some value of medium gray for the reflectivity of the glass.

I couldn't see the picture with your post (was it a pic of the problem?). But I assume it is a drawing order problem, this is often the case when things don't appear correct with transparant textures.Maybe you can give some more information, which design program did you use for example?Arno

Thanks for the replies. I tried different levels of opacity, from 10% to 100%, but no joy! I am using NOVA and FSSC. Here is a pic of the window,in 100% opacity, as you can see, it looks fine, but on the other side of it are several sign textures in DTX1 of people and they don't show unless you go up to the window and penetrate it, then you see the inside. Thanks for your help! I assume it is a layer call but haven't figured out how to change it.Michaelhttp://www.geocities.com/res052cd/cmhbanner.gif

Just what I thought, must be the drawing order.Try to make sure the the things inside the building are before the code of the window in the source code, most of the time that can solve the problems. Only for really complex object you need to fall back onto VectorJumps to control the drawing order manual.Arno
