Howdy again, Is it possible to increase the width of the taxiway centerlines in FS2002?

yes, its easy..BUT..your change will affect ALL your taxiway markings..one file has a lot of influence.Back up the file fs2002texturetaxiway_marks.bmpIf you don't have a utility called dxtbmp.exe, then go tohttp://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/index.htmand download it.Start dxtbmp.exe and select "load extended file", click on taxiway_marks.bmpYou'll see two images, one is that sick green-yellow color, the other is black and white with lines, that's the alpha channel. modify this alpha channel lines thickness, by painting more black. That will modify your lines. Then save as dxt1+alpha.Bob Bernstein

Same answer as on the other post :).If you are talking about changing the default scenery the answer is no, but when you design your own it is possible.Arno

Hi Bob,Never realised that not the entire bitmap was used for the centre line, humm nice to know. Makes my answer a bit pointless :).Arno

My taxiway_marks.bmp is normal file 128x128 x16 yellow square. What can I do with it to change its width? Perhaps I have made the change to default taxiwa_marks.bmp in the past, but I do not remember?Ted

As Bob pointed out the alpha channel of the bitmap specifies the width of the line. So look at the alpha channel and change it to change the width.Arno

I'm affraid that did not work. I tried that at forst, but saw no change. I HAVE managed to add black lines to each side of the yellow line, tho :) , but no luck on the width. Thanks anyway!

Since that mask makes the lines, I suspect some other reason caused it not to work.

Hello guys!As far as I remember the width of FS2002 taxiway centrelines is blocked and it works only with default scale 0.3. Maybe the only trick to made them thicker is to put larger bitmap there but I still think the width is fixed and Amen! :) So I would suggest, if it is okay, to use old fashion - roads as taxiway centrelines, where the width could be changed to allmost hair line or wide as river. But layer for it can only be 16, so centrelines will work on taxiways made from polygons (which are on layer 8) and they would be hidden on runways and taxiways.Best regards,Goran BrumenFS Slovenija 2002 teamhttp://slovenia.avsim.net

I am not sure about that scale thingie, when I did some tests with the new taxilines they worked fine on scale 1 as far as I remember. It's a pity of course that you can not change the color or width of the lines.I agree that in some cases the old roads might be easier to use, they allow you to use different colors (most airports not only have yellow, but also red and white lines). I always thought roads were drawn on layer 20 (even if you call them without layercall), but that is still below the runway. The new taxilines are ussually called at 40 and that makes them appear on top of the runway.Btw, polygons don't have to be layer 8. For Fs2002 scenery (with FSSC or GroundMaker for example) you can even make them without layercall. Then the order in the source file determines the drawing order. This seems to be better for the frames too (most of the time the programs then also add more polygons in one Area command). I don't know if Airport also supports this, I haven't used it for a while.Arno

Hi Arno!I do remember one debate regarding taxiway lines earlier this year and there it was told, that taxiway centrelines are made using scale 0.3, other scales posessed some problems. But I do agree that is a great pity, that texture can not be changed. On LJLJ I do have mainly yellow taxilines but on some ocasion also red and blue. Some other airports have bleck stripes on the left and right side of yellow stripe... So maybe M$ will add a new instruction as TaxiwayLine_start ( width texture ) :)I tried roads on layer 16 and 20 but it happened that only roads at layer 16 appear as I remmember. But I did not test other layers.Polygons could be on other layers too, not only ground (8), but also lakes (FS98 style, 12). You know that also. But in FS2002 You must use layers otherwise flickering will occur.Best regards,Goran BrumenFS Slovenija 2002 teamhttp://slovenia.avsim.net

Yes, I know you can use other layers. But together with a flatten command I know use the no layer option of GroundMaker or FSSC and that works fine. I'll check the source code, but I think they then have no LayerCall in it (and no flickering also, must be because of the flatten).Arno
