Asking for tutorial or help from a mentor.......

Recommended Posts

Hi all,I am inspired by to the fantastic Lago Georender en Emma Field scenery's and rather new to scenery design.I have spent three whole day's on this forum, on scenery design sites, on asking questions to people and downloading SDK's and scenery design programs.I have build a Dirt Runway at the top of a 5.500 ft mountain and like to add naturally looking taxiway's (i hate the sharp lined polygons), roads and groundtexture and after that a few barracks ofcourse. In the last three day's i found out that the learning curve can be rather steep. Now my question to all you scenery design pro's (Grin):Is there any site or big tutorial available who explains how to start, where to proceed and what to do in order to become really good in scenery design?Or.....is there any advanced scenery designer willing to be my mentor in the learning process?I live in the Netherlands and fly for real.....in return i promise to take you for a ride......Thanks for your time and happy new year !Regards,Ben.

And there I am again :D.I think if you have some more concrete questions I can give some other tips.If you don't want sharp edges on your taxiways, so can do one of these two options I think:1) Place a bitmap with the taxiways as mesh scenery (resample method, if you look for that term here you will find some help I think). The downside of this method is that the resolution is 4.8 meter per pixel.2) You can also place the same sort of bitmap, but with a higher resolution using the "old" TexPoly command. By using transparancy in the bitmap you can get nice transition effects. The negative thing about this method is that your area needs to be flat (don't know if you want that for your bush airport).Arno

Hi Arno,....and there you are......thanks for the reply.I will try to get to the two options you give me here.....i will have to work out how this resampling works.I have read about it in the MS SDK but the codes are scaring me off.I am afraid i will still need a well written tutorial about scenery design from scratch, up to changing bmp's to mipmaps and installing areatextures. (when such a complete tutorial is there anyway...)Or advise and guideance from or a mentor who doesn't mind answering my questions several times a week .....on a busy week.I am not asking you to do this (although i won't mind), just a volunteer who likes to do it, has fun with it and doesn't regret voluntering when i become to greedy for info .Maybe i am asking to much, because you all learned by reading and trail and error.I only want to prevent too much frustration causing me to quit what i really like to learn. So where are those father figures? regards,Ben

Hi Ben,Forgot one option that might be easier.I think you can also use a normal road, but then with a texture that has transparant edges, so you can get a nice transition.I don't know if you have tried to make a texture with a alpha channel? I prefer to do that in a paint program (in most you can add the alpha channel right away). And then save that file in a format that imagetool can read (TGA, PSD). In the alpha channel black means completely transparant and with grey color you can get different levels (white is not transparant).I hope this helps (a bit). But it's always hard to explain everything in detail. Trial and errors works best most of the time :).Arno
