Sinking taxiway

Recommended Posts

What can cause taxiway sink under the sorrunding terrain? I thought that mesh was the problem, but appears that that was not it.Taxiway connects apron with the runway and is halfway invisible. Ted

I think it must be the mesh that gives the problem. Have you placed a flatten under your airport? That will make sure the ground is flat and should solve your problem.Arno

Hi Ted,I just want to add to Arno not to forget to set layer for those taxiway polgons. In FS2002 this is important.BTW Arno, have You also observed that same effect can be observed on (default) FS runways? On some runways I put in the scenery, I did flatten the terrain below and sometimes this effect was visible...Regards,Goran BrumenFS Slovenija 2002 teamhttp://slovenia.avsim.net

I was using FSSC to make those polygons and as far as I can remember I set layer manualy for it as a taxiway. I do not remember what was that number, but I DO remember that it was for taxiway and it was lower than layer for runway. Perhaps there is conflict here that this taxiway of mine is a polygon really and hence should have polygon layer and not taxiway. I'll try to make this change. Ted

I forgot to add that when the plane wheels from this taxiway onto the runway, there is visible "climbing" effect and annoying bump with puff of smoke like during the landing. That to my logic would indicate that the taxiway has perhaps too low layer number , but as mentioned above I manually had changed increasing it to taxiway layer. Ted

Hi Ted!Well bumping on taxiway is something common and easy to correct. In FSSC just click in the popup menu add other->smooth. A rectangle will popup and correct its size and oritentation and no more bumping :)))Regarding sinking or hiding taxiway; I assume You use polygon so try to put layer 8 in taxiway and recompile. I have many taxiways made this way and on Layer 8 (and 16) there are no problems. And I allways use multiple smooths underneath the taxiways. Hope this will solve Your problem!Best regards,Goran BrumenFS Slovenija 2002 teamhttp://slovenia.avsim.net

Hi Goran, Thanks for help, That bump is only on the edge of taxiway where it connects to the runway. I think it has to do with layers. I have already smooth enabled under that area and there is no bumpiness which I am familiar with (dust from under the wheels) Which layer should be taxiway made on : 8 or 16? Why multiple smooths? Are they better than single one, or we talking many smaller "smooth" areas in many places where smooth required? Sorry for so many questions. Ted

Hi Ted,If you get a bump near the runway, then I think the flatten for the airport doesn't have the same altitude as the runway. That might also have something to do with the dissapearing piece of it.The layer number itself doesn't has any influence. If you have set up a correct flatten, you can even do it without a layer number (in GroundMaker this means that all polygons are added in one Area block, thus given some performance increase). And for the dust and bumpy problem, take of look at my Bumpy tool :D.Arno
