BGLPlacer Alternative

Recommended Posts

Hi all.BGLPlacer is a handy way to add effects, library objects, windsocks and simple building structures. One drawback is the requirement of using the Library names hardcoded into the BGLC. BGLPlacer only allows for those objects. But I've been playing with the CSV files made by BGLPlacer.First, BGLC doesn't need a CSV file. A TXT or ASM extension is fine.Next, we can name an object , in that text file, as it's GUID number. Here's a sample:; format for each line is the following:; EFFECT, ,,,,,,,,; LIBRARY, ,,,,,,,,; WINDSOCK,,,,,,,,,; BUILDING,,,,,,,,,;; SCALE=131072 means a scale of 0.5; SCALE=65536 means a scale of 1.0; SCALE=32768 means a scale of 2.0;LIBRARY,"0c545a271h, 011d2e2ech, 01000849ch, 02ae60c5ah",N42* 37.72',W88* 35.99',AGL,0.00,0.00,45.00,Very Sparse,"SHADOW=1;SIGNAL=20000;RADIUS=20;SCALE=131072"; EFFECT,fx_bldstm_sml.fx,N42* 37.72',W88* 35.99',AGL,0.00,0.00,0.00,Very Sparse,""EFFECT,fx_bldstm_sml.fx,N42* 37.72',W88* 35.99',310.00,0.00,0.00,0.00,Very Sparse,""For better clarity:LIBRARY,"0c545a271h, 011d2e2ech, 01000849ch, 02ae60c5ah",N42* 37.72',W88* 35.99',AGL,0.00,0.00,45.00,Very Sparse,"SHADOW=1;SIGNAL=20000;RADIUS=20;SCALE=131072"EFFECT,fx_bldstm_sml.fx,N42* 37.72',W88* 35.99',310.00,0.00,0.00,0.00,Very Sparse,""Note that the above is actually 2 lines: Library and Effect. You can place as many library objects and effects, and simple buildings as you like in one text file. BGLC will create the correct headers and LatBands, etc...Rules?No empty lines! A blank line must be prefaced with a semicolon ( ; ), just like any comment line.Watch the spaces:Very(space)Sparse is a required space.N42*(space)37.72',W88*(space)35.99' appears to be required spaces.RADIUS=20 is no spaces!"SHADOW=1;SIGNAL=20000;RADIUS=20;SCALE=131072" ...fill all the parameters. SHADOW=0 is OK. Shadows are either 0 or 1, on or off.SIGNAL=0 is OK... this is V1=0, and is used in default object placement in FS2002. This is the maximum distance the object is displayed from... 0 means display as soon as possible. It takes only integers.Radius is a required field. It also takes only integers. This is V2, the radius of the object's footprint. ( not sure about heigth. but that may need to be a radius factor ).Scale is also required. The number is the fractional denominator of 65536. For example, SCALE=131072 means 65536/131072, or 1/2, or 0.5 scale ( most default library object's scale ).A scale of 1, used in most GMax created library objects, is SCALE=65536. 65536/65536, or 1/1, or 1.0 scale. You can mix dozens of objects, effects, windsocks, and simple buildings in a single text file. BGLC will do the rest. Crash detection seems to be a function of the Object. Simple buildings ( not library objects ) have builtin crash detection, I believe. If you like BGLPlacer, go ahead and use it for your custom library objects, but place MS default library objects instead. Then, go into the CSV file with NotePad, and change the default name to the unique GUID number of your custom library object. The same may be done with effects, by renaming to your custom effects, which you placed into the FS2002 effects folder. You can take your CSV or TXT or ASM file, and drag'n'drop it onto the icon of the latest version of BGLC.Dick

Thanks for the helpful info. I finally succeeded in deleting the improperly placed Kemper and replacing it in the proper place. This has nagged at me for way to long. Now, I should be able to upload a file of KC Downtown and MKC airport in the next month or two that I am happy with. Its help from folks like you and Luis that make the difference.
