problem with coordinates of fs2002 and ground2k!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi to everyone...We face a serious problem with the alignment of the map that we use for our project and the cell grid of Ground2k.We take a printscrean from fs2002.We take the coordinates of one point in fs for NW and another for SE.Now we face the first problem as we try to convert the coordinates via ground2k's degrees calculator. When for example we have N39:38:98 the degrees calculator doesnt accept the "98" number. It seams that it accepts until "60".We overide this problem by changing the N39:38:98 with 39:39:00 but we thing that its no a correct solution.PROBLEM 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The coordinates that we cropp from a point in fs2002 doesnt seam to be the same at the same point of groun2k's .We understand that because when we draw a coastline in ground2k in accordance of the map we inport in to ground2k the coastline doesnt appear at the right point in fs2002.We believe that fs's coordinates are not the same with the coordinates of ground2k.best regards nikos and sakis greeceplease help us we would like to say that we have all the tutorials and we do the steps very carefully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Nikos and Saki,Perhaps there is some confusion. The degrees:minutes:seconds format is quite clear - 60 seconds to a minute and 60 minutes to a degree. So, you cannot have 98 seconds and the Ground2K calculator cannot give a valid result with that. Perhaps you mean instead the degrees:minutes format which is 39:38.98. Please note the decimal point. In addition, the coastline data (as well as all the vector data, i.e. roads, rivers, railroads, etc.)in Flight Simulator is not precise. Please keep this in mind. This means that all the coasts in the game are incorrectly placed and do NOT correspond to the real location. So, if you use a map and place your new coast precisely according to the real geographic coordinates, your new coast will NOT align with the default coast.Ground2K is not at fault. You must make the decision - either do not place your new coast at the real location, but rather align with the default OR exclude the entire coast and redo all of it. This is a design choice that you must make.Best regards.Luis

u know that the 98 was decimal minutes..right? so, if you need a deg:min:sec format, you need to multiply .90 by 60 which gives you seconds.Bob B

I had the same problem, and I figured it out, let me give an exampleFS coordinates are reported in grades, minutes and 1/100 fraction of minutes:N4*45'78 for example (78 here is in terms of 1/100 fractiond of a minute)ground2k accepts grades minutes and seconds, so how do we transfer these values???if in the example above, 78 has to be converted to seconds of a minute (60) you have to do the following conversion78X60/100 that is 78X60=4680 4680/100=46.80 sec, so the new notation accepted by Ground2k will be:N4*45'46.80"Please note that being secs, this value can never be more than 59.99999 so in order to check, if you have here 84, for example you made the calculation wrong...This value can be set in the degrees calculator of Ground2k and the resulting value in decimal format (where South Latitudes and West Longitudes are negative) can be used to set the coordinates for the project

Hi Guys,If I'm understanding your problem correctly, I think the following might help you out.Make a backup of your FS2002.cfg file, then:Open the FS2002.cfg file in a text editor.Scroll down to the [MAIN] sectionadd the folowing lineDISPLAY_FRACTIONAL_MINUTES=0now save and close the FS2002.cfg file. From now on FS2002 will display the co-ordinates in DDD:MM:SS.SS formatTo go back to DDD:MM.MMM format, just reverse the process.Cheers George

The Lat/Long grid used in FS2002 is set to WGS84 datum - the same that is being used in aviation these days and based on GPS.This Lat/Long grid is NOT the same as a Lat/Long grid on most other non aviation maps or charts. The difference between them varies around the world. Here in the UK it's about 500ft..boneshttp://fsaviation.net
