WinXP comes with DirectX8.1 so NO don't install another version. Go to Start, programs, accessories, system tools, tools, directX diagnostics and read the version you have on your computer.

Damian,The answer to your question is yes.First off let me thank you for posting this message. It rememinded me of days past when a common thread on this forum was that any time you upgraded drivers or installed a new vid card to reinstall DirectX. I haven't seen this posted in some time and the old brain forgot all about it. I just upgraded from a GF2 Pro to a GF4 ti4400 and FS has been crashing back to the desktop (very flustrating). I have tried everything, but nothing helped. After reading your message I reinstalled DirectX 8.1, the Win2000 version your question was about and all is FIXED!!!!The file is available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.asp?Woooooop eeeeeeee!!Kps: Love the new card, much improvment

Damian,If your DirectX8.1 WinXP is corrupt, try repairing WinXP with your WinXP CD.
