Ground2k: How do I "open" the shore texture around a la...

Recommended Posts

Hello,I just want to know, if there is a convenient way to "open up" the shorelines around a lake in Ground2k.Background: I want to combine a lake and a large river, which ends into that lake.As far as I understand there are 2 options:- using "Poly with shores" - g2k creates the water polygon(s) and matching shorelines. However, the automatic vtp-shoreline covers the whole lake (360

Hello Edgar,You may have to make your shorelines wider to cover up the gaps.Best regards.Luis

Hi Edgar,I would try making everything, lake, river etc with idividual, closed water polys with no shoreline, and specifying the altitude of the water in each case (never tried different altitudes for water - it might work, otherwise make them all the same).I guess at some point the river tapers to something you could blend with a wide stream (max value here seems to be 255 meters) then to a narrow stream.Once all this looks OK go back and overlay the shorelines you need either on the lake or the river as "lines". This is the tricky bit figuring out where the shore is going to be, also, at the end of each shoreline make a single extra point otherwise you get the "tapering" effect.I am finding that I prefer bare water polys for most rivers, especially where its supposed to be a marshy area or at least a very nerrow shoreline. No guarantees but thats what I would try, look out for the LOD13 boundaries, strange things happen there!Geoff

Hello, thanks for your advise!I will Route B and Luiz recommendation and just extend the width of the shorelines to cover water-gaps.It will be an extra effort to manage LWM poly and extra VTP lines, but hopefully worth the trouble.Just for the records: Even reducing the width to 1 leaves a pretty visible shore texture --> so no such solution. Thanks,Edgar
