scenery designers for FS2004

Recommended Posts

Guest cool_britainnia

HiI recently got FS2004 after a very long fling with FS98. In FS98 I designed 2 scenery files using the Airport designer by Pascal Meziat as well as VOD. What freeware files do you recommend to desing an airport with custom made textures and buildings. I heard that FS only accepts GMAX models now, is that true?Cheers

>buildings. I heard that FS only accepts GMAX models now, is>that true? It's not at all true - you can create macros with several different programs for export into FS2004.However, if you've been out of touch with scenery design, then you will quickly find that there have been many new changes since FS98. So, if you haven't used any of the other modeling programs before, then you may as well learn GMAX if you want to create your own custom objects. If you want to use other peoples macros/objects, then you can still import them into Airport, and compile them into FS2004-compatible BGLs. - Martin

Got to airportforwindows.com and download the latest version of Airport For windows (AFW). To design your own buildings you can use EOD - Easy Object Designer, you will have to find this yourself. If you want a payware design program try Nova or Novasim www.fsnova.com - I use Nova for designing buildings and AFW to make airports. Also take a look at Ground2K4 to make changes to coastlines rivers etc. and change landclass areas. You are in for a bit of a steep learning curve to learn all of these new (for you) programs and the best advice I can give you is to check as many forums as you can find for hints and tips..............tony

You have a few options to design the buildings. These are GMax, FSDS, EOD and NovaSim. I prefer GMax because it has a lot of options (and it comes for free with FS), but it can have a steep learning curve at the begining. EOD is a nice freeware alternative (for the link, check my homepage, you will find it there). The other two programs are freeware and I haven't used them lately. To place the object later you can still use Airport (better check for an upgrade of course :)). Another nice alternative if FSSC (http://www.avsim.com/fssc).
