GMAX help... how to make the side of building = 1 face? *PICS*

Recommended Posts

Guest C17Chief

Ok, I am pretty new at Gmax, and am just looking to see if I can "combine" all the faces on one side of the building to make 1 face so that it's easier to texture the building. I made the building with more sections than I ended up needing. Theres gotta be a way to do this right? A step by step explanation would be helpful since I dont really know my way around it too well :) Thanks.. heres a screenshot of what I'm working with.http://home.comcast.net/~svtcobra281/ktcmgmax.jpgAnd for comparison on the overall project..http://home.comcast.net/~svtcobra281/ktcmgmax3.jpghttp://home.comcast.net/~svtcobra281/ktcmgmax4.jpghttp://home.comcast.net/~svtcobra281/ktcmgmax2.jpgAnyone have any suggestions or can help would be appreciated :)

Great work... I too am just learning Gmax although I've taught AutoCad, which owns Gmax, for quite a while... Have you tried to select just the items you want and then group them with the group command...? Then render them with the textures you want...Can I also ask you if your Gmax bgls are importing into FS9 with their textures still attached, because mine are not... My models appear, but with no textures...

models don't import with textures attached, they import with "calls" attached that call the textures from the texture folder. You must put dxt1 versions of your textures in that folder manually to see them in fs.

My approach is to do a multiple select of the faces in uvunwrap...step by step1. create your material, perhaps by assigning a map to diffuse under maps or whatever2. place a uvmap modifier on the stack3. place a uvunwrap modifier on the stack4. expand the uvunwrap modifier, choose select face5. select one face6. hold down cntrl and select additional faces7. when all you wish to texture in one shot are selected, click on planar map8. click on edit9. you should now see in the edit window, red points for each vertex...drag them where you want them. (click on the triangle button at the bottom of the edit window to show only selected face vertices).that's it!Bob Bernstein
