Transparent material acting funny, clouds burn through??

Recommended Posts

Guest GerrishGray

HiI am sorry to say that this is a known problem in FS2004 and is unlikely to be fixed before the next (?!) version. Semi-transparent materials / textures have given problems through many versions of FS and continue to do so. There are some cures or workarounds in some circumstances - our good friend Arno Gerretsen is the best informed on this subject - try his web site / forums at www.scenerydesign.org.CheersGerrish

The best solution I know is to use a transparent material with no texture at all (in gmax that is the opacity setting). Clouds will shade according to the glass, only aircraft will not. If you need window details simply duplicate the glass object, and change the transparency to a dxt1 texture with the details. Eventually you'll also have to tweak the drawing order of the scenery's objects.
