Statue of Liberty

Hi all,I've today started modelling the SOF, because I never liked the default one. It still looks kinda like ... "the fat lady" but I guess once I start detailling that will go away. I'm not sure when (or if at all) I'll finish her, because it's so hard, mainly because I don't have detailed views (I got some fairly good ones from the internet, but only the contours). Also, I don't have very useful drawings of the podest. So if anyone has any material that would be of help, please don't hesitate to contact me ... The pic is naturally at a very early stage, and I just superimposed a photo over the model, just so that it looks more like it :)Thanks,-Danielhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/70539.jpg

I was so kind as to give her another arm and a pair of simple hands today ;) the head will follow. See what I mean when I say "she looks fat" ;)-Danielhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/70555.jpg

ive you like....i have a top down view of the statue and grounds..let me know if you want it..i can email it to you

Neat! I don't know if you know that the lady liberty was scanned with a laser scanner a few years ago by these folks:http://www.arch.ttu.edu/digital_liberty/the drawings and photos they produced for the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) are in the library of congress located here:http://lcweb2.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?hh:1...p/~ammem_3ZPE::if the above link doesn't work, go here:http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/hhquery.htmland search for "liberty ny".Good work!Simpit

Yep email it ... [email protected] a million!-Daniel

Thanks, the 3d project seems to be pretty sweet. I already got the scheme drawings, which I've been using, but it's missing some detail - I guess I'll use photos for that. I'll keep you guys updated.-Daniel

Gosh it's not getting easier! Last post for today: Made her thinner, worked on the head, made some provisional textures and added some contour to the robe...probably isnt apparent in the pic.I'm forgetting about all the right proportions right now - startin to go by feeling... the material I have just doesn't do it :(But it already looks better than the standard one, methinks.-Danielhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/70755.jpg

OK new shots. This time without any textures ... I guess texturing is gonna be the toughest part. Any comments appreciated.Could still use some architectual drawings, so if you have anything useful, contact me. -Daniel

Sorry, double post. I added some creases, corrected the position of the arm, added the "foot" etc. -Danielhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/70860.jpg

It's interesting how much difference the texturing makes, especially in a model with as much organic flow as this one has. Looking good!Simpit

True ... but thats what texturing is for, to make up for what you can't model ;)Texturing is coming alone fine ... I'm not 100% happy but this is about as good as it gets with the material I have - I'd like to finish the whole model in about a weeks time, until my vacation ends. I guess I'll add some contrast here and there, but that should really be it.The arms are still missing though - but I'm rather surprised how far I've already gotten, so I guess I'll manage ;)-Danielhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/70954.jpg

hey daniel.....had problems sending that pic to your email....plus for some reason i cant upload it onto the server...do you have another email to send the pic to

Try [email protected] Hope that works.I should get a new email adress - I've got the feeling that my main adress is blacklisted with some providers because these
