regarding geometric projection and inf files

Recommended Posts

Hi gang...when calculating an inf file deg/pixel value for a newly reprojected image, I was intrigued by how close the valus for x and y came to being equal, and how similar the number was to my former m/pixel resolution from the utm projection.interesting...started me thinking.I wonder if once we reproject the utm into geographic...should the deg/pixel be equal? I read some on the web about the geographic project til I realized that this is likely more in the programing of fs than to do with the projection...it has to do with how fs understands the pixels of the image. So I wonder if anyone knows this or has done experiments.

Hi Bob.A true geographic projection would have the same values. An example would be the SRTM data for mesh.A reprojection may be slightly different... just means the conversion was close, and the output coordinates are honest about that.Dick
