Recommended Posts

What is the relationship between the LandClass numbers in TDFCalc and the names of the various textures in FS2004/scenery/world/texture?Dick Boley @KLBE

Hi Dick,I'm using a table compiled by Gerrish Gray but I don't think he ever uploaded it to one of the FS Servers. Perhaps send him an email and ask for a copy? In the meantime, an older table, made by Orlando Sotomayor, is available here: http://home.att.net/~mesh64/nlcd_mapping.html (columns 2 and 3 are of interest).More information also in the TerrainTextureNames.doc of the FS2004 Terrain SDK.I use Martin Wright's TView to preview the texture bitmaps and James Bertelson's PolyB Landclass Viewer as a visual catalogue.Cheers, Holger

Thanks for the info, especially Jim's Poly programs. My problem is that TDFCalc shows the current landclass as 003101231212120Su.bmp . I need to determine how to relate that to the texture file names such as 025b2su3.bmp . ???Regards,Dick Boley @KLBE

Howdy Dick, what TDFCalc shows you is the unique reference number for a specific LOD13 Area; these numbers are only required for placing photoreal textures or custom autogen. It seems that you're trying to find the landclass number of a specific location? In that case you can either use TMFViewer that comes with the FS9 Terrain SDK package or Jim Keir's LWMViewer. Either will allow you to load the default or add-on landclass file (the default is worldlc.bgl in SceneryBASEScenery), zoom in on the location you're interested in and display the landclass number. Then you use that number with the tables that relate number to bitmap name.I don't know of any utility that reads the active landclass of a location while slewing around in-sim.Cheers, Holger

Hello Holger,Interesting that you would recommend Orlando's information. It is rather old (year 2000?), although he was certainly the pioneer in this and altitude mesh.Christian Stock included the complete land class look-up table for FS2002 in his Terra Model File Manual(in the AvSim library.) He extracted it from the default files.Come on, Christian, own up! You have probably done the same with the FS2004 look-up table. Any chance of getting a copy of it?Best regards.Luis

Hi Luis, actually, I'm not recommending Orlando's tables; they are just something to start with and I had forgotten about Christian's table ;-)Gerrish' FS9 table is complete, as far as I can tell, and I would have attached it here except I don't know whether he'd be okay with it. I'm pretty sure I downloaded it as an attachment to a post in this forum but I can't find that post anymore. Hence my suggestion to contact Gerrish directly.Cheers, Holger

Hello Holger,Gerrish doesn't mind and we always give him credit for his wonderful work. That was I who attached it to a post a while back, and I shall be glad to do it again. But, the list is on the other computer. It shall be done tomorrow at dawn (when I get up here on the farm anyway!)By the way, where is Gerrish? Anyone had news of him recently? I shall send him a message tomorrow as well.Best regards.Luis

Thanks to all !!This is what happens when you only sporadically mess around with something as complex as a simulator. It is easy to forget what tools do what, or which might be better.Regards,Dick Boley @KLBE

Hello Jorge, here's a download link: http://www.hsandmann.com/files/Landclass%2...rish%20Gray.zipThere's also James N Bertelson's PolyView utility, which includes a visual reference of the classes (Region B only): http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...04sd&DLID=47486In fact, I'm sure there are more visual guides and tables in the AVSIM library, if you search the FS2004 Scenery Design or Utilities sections.Probably the most complete spreadsheet for FS2004 land class was made by Joachim Buhre. It's available at http://www.jobia.de/ but the documentation is in German only. The direct link is http://www.germany-vfr.de/Jobia/Testscener...testscenery.zipCheers, Holger
