Coal mines/vineyards ground textures

Recommended Posts

Guest Bendo

G'day all,I am (slowly) building scenery for the Hunter Valley region of NSW Australia, an area famous for 1)vineyards and 2) Coal mines.Does anyone know of a source for such ground textures? I am trying to fudge it using the excellent EZ-Landclass but shucks it just ain't the same. Thanks in anticipation

G'day,This is definitely a hack, but you might try searching TerraServer (http://terraserver.microsoft.com/) for similar areas in the US. If you want vineyards, you might look in the Napa/Sonoma valley regions just north of San Francisco. I'm not sure about coal mines, as they'd be harder to spot from the air (unless you're talking about open pit or strip mining), but you might at least have some luck w/the vineyards. Of course the pics will be in black and white, so the other challenge would be colorizing them in a realistic fashion. Sounds like a lot of work to me!thanks,

Howdy,Bill's suggestion is probably the way to go but I would start with a good long look at the FS9Texture and FS9SceneryWorldTexture directories. I usually find something in there that can be used either directly or as a base for Photoshop editing. A really good tool for the search is Martin Wright's TView thumbview utility, available here: http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/index.htmCreating your own full set of landclass textures is rather painful indeed but individual textures can be placed via VTP2 polys, though autogen would have to be added separately as custom tiles. In case you end up looking through aerial photography, some US states have color orthophotos available, such as NY State here: http://www.nysgis.state.ny.us/ Generally, a good place to start for images is http://libinfo.uark.edu/GIS/us.asp#NY . Sorry, don't know of any similar sources for Australia.Cheers, Holger
