USAPhotoMaps help

Recommended Posts

Guest

Hello Everyone,I've spent the past two days trying to acquaint myself with USAPhotoMaps and Terraserver. I've managed to download both photos and USGS quads but haven't been able to get any further than that. I want to try using the topo maps with Ground2K4 instead of satellite images to relocate roads, streams etc.Would someone please explain how to get a map out of the USAPhotoMaps program ready for use in Ground2K4? For the life of me I cannot find a way to do this and the accompanying readme file doesn't appear to explain how. If it does, I can't find it.Wil Husted

get "bigjpeg", another utility from doug cox. you need to feed it the northing and easting coordinants of the area of interest. NW and SE corners. If you have the bigjpg.exe in the same folder as the data files, it works great. Then you'll have a jpg. Its in UTM projection. You need to convert it to Geographic projection, there is a thread showing a freeware method of doing that, Holger started that thread. topic 20484.Bob B

Hello Bob,Thanks for reminding me that Holger had started a thread on the subject. I've saved the thread and will gather the programs necessary. Being fairly new to this scenery game, I'm not sure I'm ready to tackle the procedure right now. It seems awfully complicated not having tried it. Back to school!Wil
