Fantasy Island (Anomalous Textures)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,Any Scottish members? If so, have you come across what I have dubbed 'fantasy island'?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96155.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/96156.jpgAs you can see it appears to be a body of land situated a few miles due east of the Forth Estuary. It even comes populated with autogen!I have recently installed Scotflight Scenery ver.2.0c but I am pretty sure that it is not the cause. Disabling either Scotflight or ScotflightLandClass has no effect - the island/textures persist.Just wondering whether others have come across this anomaly and/or know what installation is responsible and what to do to get rid of these textures?I posted this in the General Forum but so far have had no responders.Thanks.Mike

Hello Mike,This is pretty common throughout the FS world. It is just a small error in the default, world-wide land class file.To remove the ground tiles, just use any land class modification program (EZ-Landclass or Landclass Assistant are probably the best indicated for this task.) Place land class 100 over these areas to remove the land.Best regards.Luis

Hi Luis,Thanks for your help. I've now installed both utilities and am currently trying to learn to get to grips with them. On first glance I can't find landclass 100 - numerous others but no landclass 100.Cheers,Mike

Hello Mike,Land class 100 is... water! That's right, a couple of the land class values are water. Undoubtedly, the FS Development Team found this to be a convenient means of ensuring land class coverage for the entire world, including the oceans and other bodies of water. In a few locations, however, defective source data may have placed land where there should be water. The easy solution is to use one of the above land class modification programs to place a "water" land class over the "land" land class.I have not used either of those programs in a while, and perhaps they do not provide land class value 100 in their list of land classes (because it is not land, of course.) But, you should be able to just type that value in the relevant place for it to work.As I remember, both programs allow you to launch FS, slew over the area you want to modify, and then enter the land class value that you wish to place. It should all be very easy. Don't hesitate to ask if you encounter any problems.By the way, there also seems to be some spurious land on the Western coast of Scotland, from what I see in the default land class file.Best regards.Luis
