Is it possible to import existing FS scenery into 3D Studio Max?

Recommended Posts

Guest Pjotr

We want to add some elements to existing FS scenery, using 3D Studio Max. So we need a way of converting existing FS scenery into 3D Studio Max format, or another exchange format like .X or .3DS.Does anyone know of a suitable converter to achieve this? Thanks,Pjotr

Hello PjotrI am not an expert but I think you must have the source codes to modify existing bgls.So I would suggest you exclude the scenes you don't like and build new ones from scratch.I hope this will helpCheersChristian, Paris

Hello Pjotr,This is an interesting concept, perhaps you could clarify exactly what you are trying to do and why you need to bring scenery objects into 3DS.If all you want to do is place some default objects in the scenery, then please get the BGLComp SDK. For easy placement of many of those objects, get Rwy 12 Object Placer by Seev Kahn and Israel Roth..But, I would be interested to know what you have in mind.Best regards.Luis

We are developing a parachute training simulator.I am investigating whether this is possible with the standad FS SDKs and scenery, or whether we need to develop it separate from FS.In both cases, we need to add more detailed geometry, both terrain and placed objects, than what's provided in standard MS-FS.Pjotr

In general it is not possible to load 3D objects back into GMax/3DS. As suggested before it is better to make your new objects completely from scratch. There are some scripts that can import old style SCASM code, but from what I have heard it is far from perfect. So I think such an approach will cost you just as much time as starting from scratch in the end.

Hi Pjotr.Terrain elevation ( mesh ) is limited to approx 19 meters per vertex. Landcover, including land/water masking is limited to approx 4.75 meters per vertex. Scenery objects have virtually no vertex limitation.... perhaps 0.000001 meters.Dick
