lighting problem

Recommended Posts

Gentlemen,I'm coming along in GMAX. One problem is I can't produce a floodlight/spotlight. I use the lighting object creater but nothing shows up. Please, what parameter do I need to adjust to fix this. Also, I have noticed a nice ambient night effect but don't understand it or how to manipulate it. Hangars that I have created have a nice residual light glow on the north and east side at night but the south and west sides are black as the ace of spades. What does this? Thanks,

Happy landings,

Mike Eppright (KAAO)

Mike,Which sim are you exporting for? FS8 supports the BGL_LIGHT command via simple triangle objects with the special LIGHT_ materials. FS9 doe not, in the same way. Instead, MS expects you to attach Effects using the Attach Tool. Of course, those are just "points" of light and do not make a light "beam" or "pool" on the ground the way it was done in FS8 with the LIGHT_LAND and LIGHT_TAXI materials did. Making the old style BGL_LIGHT commands work with FS9 requires editing the *.asm files to remove the g_lightStates condition check which is an aircraft condition. Some have made library files for the old style lights, then use the Attach Tool to call and place them in the scene.Lou
