Railroad width

Recommended Posts

Hi Jim,the default railroad textures contain just one file, railroadsu.bmp, in FS9SceneryWorldtexture. That file includes the track and the gravel bed. There are two ways to change the width: one is to edit the texture itself the other is to make new railroad files (or decompile and edit the default ones) with a different width specified for the VTP2 lines. Some third-party add-ons, such as Ultimate Terrain, use a separate gravelbed texture that is being placed below the railroadsu.bmp. This is quite a bit wider than the default gravelbed. I don't think it can be deactivated independently of the railroad texture itself and changing its VTP2-defined width would require decompiling UT files. Moreover, the UT gravelbed texture is also used for double-lane highways, which means changes to the texture itself would affect both.Cheers, Holger

Hi there,Hugo, any LWM and VTP file can be de-compiled with Jim Keir's LWMViewer: http://www.jimkeir.co.uk/FlightSim/LWMViewer.html . To re-compile after editing (which can be done in Wordpad or any other text editor) you need MS's BGLC.exe, which Richard Ludowise included in his tdfmacros.zip and cellgrid2004a.zip here in the library.Jim, as far as I know UT uses only the six seasonal/night gravel textures (*UnderR.bmp and LmUnder.bmp) - and the default #1210 railroad texture. Again, de-compiling one of the RR files and reading the VTP2 header should provide you with the exact file names and widths used (Note that while de-compiling is possible, re-distributing altered UT files is of course a big no no, at least without written permission by Allen/Scenery Solutions).Cheers, Holger
