Some newb questions about design programs

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! First off, let me say thanks. I've been lurking here for some time and the wealth of knowledge you guys have 'put to paper' has made my tweaking a lot easier and improved my sim experience immensely. :)So in that spirit, I've undertaken remodeling of a true gem of a little bush strip that FS has all wrong. I've made good progress using various tools, most notably the awesome SBuilder. I have a couple of questions about what's possible with the latest of these proggies like LVM2Viewer and SBuilder (since sometimes the documentation is a bit sparse). I've done extensive searches here and at arno's site, but want to get the latest dope. So:1. I've made a multi-grade sloping runway using tilted flattens. Is it possible to lay down a texture on these with alpha (fading edge of the runway), or will I have to recreate the slope in GMAX to get a 'blended' runway texture?2. Is it possible to create a transparent poly that will exclude ONLY autogen trees? That's it! Thanks for reading.regards,Ryanp.s. -I'm using this project as a warm up to a remodelling to the Pacific Northwest's 7th busiest airport. Can you guess which it is?

Hi,I have just made a comment on your other post regarding the texturing of ground polygons with SBuilder. I think that you can use a texture with alpha to blend the edges of the runway. I never tried to make runways in that way. May be (?) you need to elevate the points of the polygons that form the runway polygon so that the runway is seen on top of the terrain (not burried).Regards, Luis

Hi Luis, Thanks very much for the reply. I looked into this some last night and it does seem like it will give good results with a little work. My main concern was with how the texture is mapped onto the polygon, since my runway is not straight, but curves to the right. Correct me if I am wrong, but the top of the texture always oriented to the north, and the texture is stretched to cover the entire polygon. So I see a couple ways to get the results I'm after :)Thanks again for the great program!regards,Ryan

aaahhh, never mind. I see now how to map textures. You've really thought of everything Luis! :)
