Does sound card make a huge difference?

Recommended Posts

Guest Pardue802

I've been using the motherboard onboard sound card (Creative PCI 128) with my computer for about a year now. I just found a great deal on an OEM Soundblaster Audigy (I don't use that software anyway) and am waiting for it to come in. My speakers are somewhere between moderate and great quality surround sound. It didn't occur to me at the time, but now I'm wondering, will this make a difference in FS? I'm looking forward to it! Thanks very much in advance.Kenneth

Well if you're referring to quality than unless you're some sort of audio purist than certainly not. You may notice a slight reduction in noise or *hiss* at high volume levels, but that's about it since FS doesn't support anything more than basic stereo soundfield-wise and it's complex pitch and mixing routines are mostly done by the CPU (No EAX or DirectSound3D 4-speaker support.) You'd get a much more noticeable improvement in quality by getting better speakers.Perhaps it would be useful to purchase one if you play other 3D games or have performance/compatibility issues with your current soundcard.-Leon Medado

In short, for FS2K2, no.Actually, turning down the hardware acceleration on a top end sound card can give improved performance in many cases...Chris Ehttp://website.lineone.net/~flightsimukAvoid AGP texturing = Better Performance ;)
