Question about dashes in taxiway signs...

Had a question come up...hoping someone can answer it definitively. Some FAA Airport Diagrams show taxiways designated with a dash in them, some don't. For example, at KONT, you have taxiway "A-1", but at KLAX, you have taxiway "C1". On the signs next to the taxiway at the airport, do they appear as they do in the FAA Airport Diagram? or do they leave the dash out?So at KONT, should the sign on the ground read "A1" or "A-1"?Thomas LinTaxiwaySigns.comVolunteers (testers and designers) needed, please visit the site for information

Thomas, Interesting question and I have just spent the better part of 20 plus minutes researching signs at the FAA web site. Here is what I found. Paragraph 2. states that signs with both apha (letters) and numerics (numbers) will "Not" have the dash (-) between them. However, if your airport still has signage with the dash, it can be used as long as it meets additional criteria. In other words, the old signs may be used until they are required to be replaced . Wow, Terry, what a great resource. The FAA site has so much fascinating information, but it sure is hard to find it all. Not a very intuitive interface. Anyway, Thomas, I guess that clears it up, as well as giving you all kinds of other interesting tidbits. It's not a huge deal anyway, the sceneries are great either way and I'm sure no-one (expecially me!) would stop using them because they did or didn't have a dash ;) Isn't it amazing what you can find out by asking on the forums?
