Legacy Utilities and FSUIPC

Recommended Posts

While some utilities are being modified to work with FSX others are not and many of those may never be adapted to FSX. Utilities such as SceneGenX, AFCAD, Sbuilder, and others could either be completely or partially useful if FSUIPC, or some other program, provided an FS9 interface from FSX. Dick near 5G8

FSUIPC4 does interface with FSX allowing such utilities to work without change.George

FSX interface to FS9 utilities. Left out the word utilities. Asan example while you can use AFCAD to change an FSX airport you cannot position the aircraft in AFCAD thus making accurate chnages difficult.Dick Boley

Hi Dick,You cannot use Afcad2 to modify an FSX airport since the bgl format has changed. However, you can modify an FS9 airport whilst moving the aircraft and seeing its position in FSX.I have written a few utilities for FS9 using FSUIPC3 such as identifying photo scenery tiles, all work without change using FSUIPC4 and FSX. Similarly, I am using FSTFlatten in FSX to generate data for the SHP2VEC tool.George

Hi George,Yes, that is correct. Was lamenting that older utilities need an FSX linkage to continue to be as usable as they are in FS9. Some because there is no anticipated update and others while the authors revise their code.I use AFCAD to modify FSX airports indirectly, as you mentioned. I have not done anything except simple changes but FSX seems to accept the FS9 BGL which is better than fiddling the FSX airport BGL directly.Interesting that, in some instances, FSUIPC3 programs work with 4. George,THANKS... You inspired me to check if FSUIPC4 was really installed and it was not. I had installed it in my original load but since then I have reloaded FSX and never considered FSUIPC4. Now works with legacy applications!!Once again thanks!Dick near 5G8
