Changing Runway signs and adding a control tower in FS9

Recommended Posts

Guest bfd821

Hi all,I'm new to re-doing scenery. My home airport (KROG) has changed since FS9 was published. The runway has been changed from 1/19 to 2/20. I've been able to change the numbers on the runway its self with AFCAD, however, when I taxi upto the runway it still has 1-19 on the runway signs. Is there anyway to change this? The airport is now also tower controlled. I've been able to add the tower freq through AFCAD, but do not know how to actually add the tower building. All help will be greatly appreciated,Shawn

Hi Shawn,Unfortunately you can not edit the signs with AFCAD. So what you have to do to change them, is create an exclude that will remove the current signs and then place new signs with the correct text back into the scenery. You can do this with XML code. I think there are also some tools that can help you create signs, but as I never used them I can't tell you which :).About the control tower, if you have found a 3D objects you want to place (at another airport for example), you can easily place it in your scenery as well if you know the GUID. This can be done with XML code again or with an object placement tool like Rwy12 or ObPlacer XML. You can't use AFCAD to place 3D objects.

I use SceneGenX for FS9 taxisigns. It will load in the default airport much like AFCAD, but also include all the scenery objects, including the taxisigns. thus you could move and/or reletter the signs as needed.Note that when changing runway ident, you also need to change the starts and runway taxiway to match. Not sure if AFCAD does this automatically or not. Also, none of the scenery editors will update the approaches which the GPS and ATC use for IFR purposes, and which also encode the runway number. You will have to decompile and hand-edit the approaches. You can also use SceneGenX to place one of the default towers, or one from the Rwy12 library program.scott s..
